Prepping for winter … Winterizing

  • Belly35
I’m still screwing around with the leaves … some of my yellow maple and pin oaks have a ton of leaves on still.
Haven’t gotten my outside water turned off, lines blown out yet, patio table and chairs still out, flower pots full of dirt, need more wood (going to be a cold and long winter), have cleared out my garage to make room for the snow blower, still haven’t covered the garden, need to change the oil in the tractor and mower still, have to pick up some salt (400 pounds) for the back of my truck …..
Cold front coming in on Thursday I better get busy…mofo

Have you winterized your home yet … What are some of the things you need to get done or have done?

All the hoses are off the spigots and the wind carried the leaves to the field. I am ready for winter.

Why is an oil change considered winterizing?

Check your tire pressure on your different vehicles too.

I have leaves to do and some bushes to trim back...doing that tonight. Got wood in to burn so good there. Snowblower is ready to go so I am not far off...I have all the screens out of the window and AC covered.

...yesterday cleaned the gutters, got up all the leaves (trees are bare) on the yard, put the winter fertilizer on the lawn, got the snow blower out and fired it up, so I guess I'm ready for winter.

While winterizing just make sure no Christmas lights are turned on yet.

aaah gotcha. For some reason I thought you used your little mower/tractor also as a plow. Do you drain your gas tanks or use an additive?

Took hoses off. Leaves are taken care of for most part. Need to trash some dead plants and put up some furniture still.

Why do you need 400 LB of salt?

use an additive with about 3/4 tank full, when winter over and I get the tractor out I fill the tank with gas.

I put water softner salt in a large Rubbermaid container just in front of my wheel wells for addition traction in my truck, when winter over I use the salt in the softner
