5th grade common core math problem!

  fan from texas, I agree that it is useful in real life. My problem is some of these kids arent at a developmental stage that will let them grasp the concept.

  Some of these kids? I would say most of the kids at this age find it tough to grasp this form of education. Let these kids learn how to find the answer by doing simple math instead of them trying to achieve the answer in a complicated manner. Kids should be learning the basics of how to calculate a math problem and they will learn the short cuts on their own in time. I am disgusted by this new regime of education, almost like they are teaching our young new minds how to rely on the most complicated method to find an answer rather than to just simplify it (old school) What's simple for an adult has become the expectation of a nine year old mind. I'm not a fan of the communist core.

  The problem with Common Core is the standardization. All kids aren't the same. They all don't learn at the same pace. All they do now is teach to a test.
  
  The amount of pressure that was put on my child last year and all kids in his grade to pass the OAA was terrible. A standardized test to pass the 3rd grade? Really?

  Believe me the pressure on the teachers in k-5 is crazy too. The teachers are being pounded with paperwork for this and that. I would say that many on the verge of breakdowns because of the added paperwork and garbage that is taking time away from them to do things that don't help the kids learn or the teachers teach. Gov't garbage at its worst once again!
