here is a similar story and they let this kid play football again
shows how fucked up Ohio can be with high school football -
steubbigredwww.heraldstar.com has a nice piece from a Steubenville councilman on the front page of the Herald Star on 8-20-14 . It pretty much sums it up and maybe some of you cavemen can get the jist just a bit.

You just linked a website that doesn't exist, idiot.
And what does the opinion of a councilman elected by a bunch of mouth breathers matter to anyone else in the civilized world? -
queencitybuckeyeAgain, don't the locals get that a huge part of the issue is that a councilman's opinion doesn't matter? Nor that of any of the school administration? One person has been given dictator power, and people either act shocked that this isn't acceptable or that the decisions he makes are proper, done for the correct reasons. Delusional and in denial.

ZoltanHeretic;1646151 wrote:Just from those details, I'd say Steuby is at least marginally worse. While arson is a definite felony and there's no way I'd want that kid having a privilege like being part of an extracurricular activity, at least it's not a "potentially can easily ruin a person's life" thing like the sort of brutal rape-related shit that went on there (the subtle difference between a bad criminal act and a disgusting one). Also, you at least can say that between 13 and 17-18 that a lot of maturation could go in an adolescent's brain and he could have been a completely different person by then, as opposed to a younger high school student doing something, eventually going to trial, going to jail and then being an older high school student getting to essentially pick up where he left off. And, of course, there's nothing in your paragraph stating that Anonymous had to blow that case wide open so it wouldn't be quietly swept under the rug or that the state AG office had to get involved in order to ensure the perpetrators actually had to face any sort of justice.
Or tl;dr -- neither should have been allowed to play, but Steuby is more of a "WTF is wrong with these dipshits?!?" sort of bullshit decision.
I agree, the fire did not hurt anyone and I don't remember it being a huge deal that he was allowed to play. Plus the years in between made it feel much less fresh in the communities mind.HelloAgain;1646155 wrote:I'd say being let back on a team 5 years after starting a fire that hurt no one is not QUITE as bad as letting a rapist back on the team 9 months after the crime.
Just an opinion though...
And FYI - the fire starter is now serving 30+ years for a murder he committed in his early 20's. -
thavoiceHow about this since we are bringing up diff things that have happened.
3 players set up a fake dear in the middle of a road just passed a hill or curve. A car comes by, swerves to miss it and the two HS kids in the car crash and are severely injured. The kids get caught, go to court and get like 60 days detention....only to have the judge tell them they could serve the time AFTER THE FOOTBALL SEASON?!?!!?!?
What you think about that?
Believe at least one, maybe all three, also got caught drinking late in the season once they pretty much could not make the playoffs and got booted from the team I believe if memory serves me right -

If I remember right the judges logic was that football was good for the kids, and I certainly understand that. Sometimes a kid needs the program more than the program needs them. That being said, let the kids attend all football activities - morning lifting, conditioning, study tables, practice, charity work etc. Just don't let them play the games. Make them work their butts off in a structured environment, but don't give them, the team, and the community the reward of them playing Friday nights. -

Don't forget that the townspeople went all FWK/Steuby on the injured kids, bringing up how they might have been intoxicated and, therefore, deserved whatever happened to them.thavoice;1646317 wrote:How about this since we are bringing up diff things that have happened.

And lulz on Thicktard defending the decision by attempting to post comments by a Steuby council member (aka: just another townie who has a vested interest in the town not looking like a collection of morons). -

Yeah, the injured kids were 5% responsible for getting hurt, right FWK??Heretic;1646341 wrote:Don't forget that the townspeople went all FWK/Steuby on the injured kids, bringing up how they might have been intoxicated and, therefore, deserved whatever happened to them.

Easy. Mike Mauk is cut from the same shit-stained cloth as Reno. This has been known for several years.thavoice;1646317 wrote:How about this since we are bringing up diff things that have happened.

I think Kenton has the Mauk family on a higher pedestal than Steubenville does Reno. You'd swear Mike is God and Ben and Maty were separate incarnations of Jesus with the way Kenton people act on message boardsfish82;1646369 wrote:Easy.
