Traffic cameras

Pick6anyone ever fought one of these and succeeded? I got one in the mail last week, the "due date" was July 8th. So I was screwed by default. I received another letter this weekend with an additional $20 late fee. The next time they said its another $40. I thought I heard they were unconstitutional before, so did a quick search and found this article from Cleveland.com

Top comment seems pretty legit, but if I were to send in said letter, would they laugh and keep sending me this bullshit or drop it? I'll obviously do more research myself, but was wondering if anyone has any experience fighting this, hopefully in Cleveland. Not looking to go to court.
Here is the comment with an example letter:
I received a letter claiming I committed a violation of a speeding law in the District of Columbia on 04/21/2012. As per the instructions, I am writing to plead ‘not guilty’ to this charge. Although this option is said to result in this matter going to court; it is my suggestion that the charges simply be dropped. This suggestion comes out of respect for tax payers, and my request that their hard earned money not be wasted in such proceedings. As there is no evidence of my involvement with this alleged ‘crime’, as well as the fact that I am not granted my 6th amendment right to face my ‘accuser’ (a camera); I see no way the government could prove my guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. I also see find no legal requirement for me to implicate someone else in this process, as it is the government’s responsibility to prove a person’s guilt. It is also my 5th amendment right to remain silent on the matter. -

I got 2 here in DC for 150 each (fucking bullshit as is). I fought both of them and won both. I used the same letter for both of them. Camera tickets are a complete fucking bullshit. Just revenue generators for the city.Pick6;1639389 wrote:anyone ever fought one of these and succeeded? I got one in the mail last week, the "due date" was July 8th. So I was screwed by default. HitsRusI would send them the original fine , but plead not guilty.... and a copy of the postmarked envelope showing that you did not receive the ticket until after the due date. Ask them to drop the late charges, and tell them you will hire a lawyer and fight the whole thing if they persist.
or, if you have the inclination to fight it as Like that did, go for it. -

I would fight it regardless. They bank on people with the thought process "well I might as well just pay it off." Get your money's worth and put the assholes to work. Worst that can happen is you pay the fine.HitsRus;1639424 wrote:I would send them the original fine , but plead not guilty.... and a copy of the postmarked envelope showing that you did not receive the ticket until after the due date. I got mine in early march. It normally takes up to 6 months for a response. They sent the decision early July.Pick6;1639427 wrote:when was your most recent? -

Well then you have to waste your time in court (possibly) and take the risk of paying court fees.like_that;1639425 wrote:I would fight it regardless. most people don't fight regular tickets. so that thought process doesn't apply just to cameras.like_that;1639425 wrote:I would fight it regardless. Not sure how it works in Cleveland, but in DC you can just submit your argument online.Trueblue23;1639438 wrote:Well then you have to waste your time in court (possibly) and take the risk of paying court fees. -

Big difference between actually being caught by a cop and a fucking camera.Glory Days;1639500 wrote:most people don't fight regular tickets. so that thought process doesn't apply just to cameras. -

Helicopter got me once my the 1/4 mile markings on the highway. The cop that was waiting said it was from marking 1 to marking 2 I averaged 70 mph according to the time it took me to get between the 2 points.....problem was that I just turned onto the highway at marking 1 and started from a complete stop. To average 70 mph starting from 0 mph in a 10 year old Accord? Not so much. Patrolman was an ass and didn't understand what I was saying....I was 19 and ended up paying the $60-$70 ticket....probably could've got out of that one.like_that;1639506 wrote:Big difference between actually being caught by a cop and a fucking camera. -
Pick6I'm all for sending the letter in and trying to get out of it, just don't want it to turn into some bullshit where I have to go to court. Don't have the time, nor want to get into that stuff.

Correct, the camera is right almost 100% of the time. the cop however, uses their perception and opinion which isn't always correct. its human nature, we make errors. the problem is, you just don't like being caught. in turn, you would rather have the cop, which A) isn't always at that intersection, or B) is wrong some of the time.like_that;1639506 wrote:Big difference between actually being caught by a cop and a fucking camera. -

is this one of the ones where you can view the video of your violation online? also, from the article, the camera's themselves are perfectly legal. its the way the tickets are handled which was unconstitutional. I believe the guy who sued still had to pay his fine even though he won that court case.Pick6;1639521 wrote:I'm all for sending the letter in and trying to get out of it, just don't want it to turn into some bullshit where I have to go to court. LOL, this is so far from the truth. This is why I have won my case TWICE now against speeding camera tickets, right? -
TiernanI'm hoping you get a few days in county lock-up for this blatant disrespect for the law.

but you didn't win your cases because you didn't go through the red light or whatever kind of camera it was. you won your case because of this letter you sent. the camera was still right in showing you committed a violation. just because they didn't want to continue to fight your claim, doesn't mean you didn't commit the crime.like_that;1639557 wrote:LOL, this is so far from the truth. WRONG again. It has already been proven that these cameras are inaccurate. In fact the DC DMV even says so. The DC adjudication process can be done online and can take up to 6 months. If they thought they had a legitimate case they would have responded saying so and would have taken their easy 150 bucks. Continue to be delusional living in your utopia police state though.Glory Days;1639567 wrote:but you didn't win your cases because you didn't go through the red light or whatever kind of camera it was. you won your case because of this letter you sent. the camera was still right in showing you committed a violation. just because they didn't want to continue to fight your claim, doesn't mean you didn't commit the crime.
Pick, idgaf if you fight it or not. Glory days' type of logic is exactly what they bank on though. To top it off they charge you just enough to make it seem it is not worth your time to fight. An easy 20-40 dollars for them. Like I said before, those cameras are strictly made for revenues generators for any particular county. Pretty sad cops are now this lazy. -

Curious how they are proven inaccurate? Asking because I really don't know, not to argue about it.like_that;1639571 wrote:WRONG again. It has already been proven that these cameras are inaccurate. thavoiceYou may be able to check out some info by googline sloanie law. He is a host on WLW who has dubbed the fight against those camera's as "sloanie's law" about the cameras in a nearby cincy supburb

I don't necessarily know about inaccurate, but I have read online that it is common to get out of them because the camera has gone a long time without being recalibrated.WebFire;1639594 wrote:Curious how they are proven inaccurate? Asking because I really don't know, not to argue about it. -
