Jeff Ruby Steakhouses in Cincinnati: Carlo and Johnny or Downtown?

  • ou1980
Trying to decide on reservations and am narrowing it down. Aware of the prices and will not go anywhere else besides one of these two (have always wanted to go to one, and this time were doing a Jeff Ruby Resteraunt )

Whichever now does NOT have A-1 steaksauce.

I've never been to either of them, but I have been to the Precinct and The Waterfront. (now closed) I think the food choices are close to the same at all his resturants.

Carlo and Johnny just for the parking. Find a night when this guy is performing http://www.kennycowden.com/

its not a real steak until you throw some A-1 on it.

Is Jeff Ruby any relation to Jack Ruby? Do they have the Dallas 63oz steak?

I prefer the Precinct. But if you must go to one of the two, I'd say downtown.

    This.

Steaks at The Precinct come with a choice of salad and potato. You pay separately at Carlo & Johnny and downtown. The Precinct is only a few miles East of Downtown in Columbia Tusculum. I've only been to the downtown location once (work celebration), but I've been to the other two multiple times. The Precinct is our go-to celebration spot.

My typical meal at The Precinct (14oz NY Strip w/ the Collinsworth topping, freddie salad, garlic mashed potatoes) is $52.75.

At Carlo & Johnny the same meal would cost $69.
    Steak: $44
    Collinsworth topping: $8
    Freddie salad: $9
Garlic mashed: $8 (though this is a bigger portion)

Definitely. The Downtown one reminds me of something out of Goodfellas. Which is part of the reason why I like it.

Ended up at the downtown location last night for dinner. A work happy hour turned in to a small group of us heading there for dinner with the tab being picked up by one of our C-level execs.

Sounds like one is a restaurant and the other is a traditional steakhouse. Where the sides serve 4 people and the steaks and salads come separate. Essentially, everything is ala cart?? I prefer the steakhouse style if I am going with more than 2 people, because I think ultimately you can SAVE money. But you waste a ton of food and money if you just go as a couple. Leftovers are never bad, but some people dont want to pay the price for them.

That would quickly bump Downtown up on my list. :)

The problem with the Precinct is that I hate to go that close to Eli's and not eat there.

If I lived that close, I don't think I would even have a kitchen in my house lol.

It's too bad the OC barely makes me any money or I'd do just that.
