Rosetta Stone

Anybody else use this? I downloaded it off a torrent site and am shocked how fast you pick it up. The immersive quality to it is pretty cool as well, you actually start to learn the language similar to how you learned english as there are no english translations or anything. Just pictures and words and a speaker saying the words. Something fun to do in the summer

It's definitely legit, but I got bored with it rather quickly. I was also learning Danish, which is a bitch of a language.

For casual learning or to brush up for a trip it's perfect, but I feel I need to be in a classroom setting if my goal was to speak fluently and read/write.

Learning a new language gets exponentially harder with age.

That being said, I tried Rosetta Stone for Spanish and found it to be useless. It rarely understood me when i spoke to it, and it didn't seem to teach me vocab very well.

Also, most libraries have it so there's not really any need to pirate it.

What level did make it through for Spanish?

I've heard if you get through level 5 you'll have a solid understanding as a whole. A friend completed 1-3 for Italian and she was pretty damn good after that, but also very dedicated.

I don't remember. Was years ago.

I was only casually doing it to brush up for college-level courses I had to take.

I wanted the fundamentals (sentence structure, verbs, conjugation, etc) and Rosetta Stone fell way short of that with its immersion bs.

Granted, I guess I was a rare breed since I had taken Spanish before.

I had taken Spanish in high school and six years had passed since I had seen/used it.

Found the program valuable; I can speak French, in Russian.

Is it? I'm learning Swedish which is actually pretty easy to catch on to

Yes, definitely one of the harder Scandinavian languages. I'm assuming mostly due to the spelling and pronunciation. You hear a word, see the spelling and you're like wtf... and vice versa. My Swedish and Norwegian friends would always rag on Danes and their language.

The structure is easy to pick up, but hearing a word and then spelling it very difficult. But like I said, I gave up pretty quickly.

I'll have to suggest this to a friend, as she's moving to Europe (can't remember if it's France or Germany off the top of my head) in a month.

This line comes from the advanced version of Rosetta Stone. Belly 401, so your basic model will still leave you staring at the screen with confusion and disbelief.
