Seriously, if you are having car problems, type the problem into Google. 9/10 it'll be something like "Oh just replace such and such" that you can get for $5 at a auto-parts store and fix it yourself. Google pretty much eliminates the need for mechanics of any sort; at this point you are basically just paying money because you are lazy and/or want to transfer the risk of your maintenance to someone else(expensive!).
Do you also fix all that ails ya' via Web MD?

Sometimes. I'm definitely not the type to rush to the doctor any time I'm not feeling well and prefer to research symptoms/solutions on my own. However, I do utilize the doctor at a much higher rate for body maintenance rather than pay some high school drop out $30 to change my oil and a filter.

Haha I actually did learn how to change my alternator off Google

And you probably saved good money doing it, as alternators are one of the easier items to replace on a vehicle. Unless it's one of those damn cars that buries and you have to remove half the engine compartment to get to it.

Wife took her daughter's care to an autozone or a place like that and they hooked it up and the "expert" said it was the alternator that was bad so she got one.

I looked it up on google to change it and, well, didnt quite want to do it so I decided to check the battery instead. It is one of those that is buried and you have to take it out and check it through the wheelwell.

Turns out...the batter was fucking shot. Bloated, still warm. Took it out, brought it to that place and asked for the guy she spoke to. He was just too fucking lazy to actually check the battery because it was too much work.

    Fucking moron.

but yea..i have used youtube and the web to fix shit!

He's not far off with his Google comment. They have instructional videos for almost every kind of car maintenance.

I have learned to do things from Google as well. I am about to change the fuel filter on my vehicle as we speak actually.

However my friend doing 10 dollar oil changes is too good of a deal and convenient to pass up.

i can watch a video on how to replace my engine, doesn't mean i have the skill or equipment to do it. I also doubt Sleeper can assess his issues on his own.

    True.
There are times I just say fuck it after watching the how to video as all I can do is mess it up even more.

Doesn't mean your high school drop out car mechanic can do it either and they cost substantially more. Ever talk to a car mechanic? They may be the dumbest people in the country.

Well, no kidding. I was talking about basic fixes like filters, oil changes, headlights, etc. not brain surgery like replacing an engine. :D

according to sleeper that shouldn't be a problem at all if you're not lazy.

I said 9/10. 9 times out of ten you can repair what is wrong with your car by yourself with a simple Google and a trip to the auto-parts store. If you don't at least attempt this before going to a mechanic, you are poor and stupid.

Because you're an idiot and probably one of the high school dropouts sleeper is talking about.

Sleeper isn't off base with his comments. Most car issues can be fixed yourself if you've ever picked up a wrench in your life and have the slightest bit of reading comprehension. I've paid to get my vehicle worked on one time ever (alternator, which can easily be changed by yourself) and it's because the proper tools I needed were two hours away at home and it was an emergency.

I do my own oil changes and would not pay anyone for something I can do on my own and love to do.

My Powerstroke 7.3 takes 15 quarts (16 every other change when I drain the HPOP) of Rotella 15w40 with a Baldwin filter. The 5.9 Cummins takes 12 quarts of Rotella 15w40 with a Fleetguard Stratapore filter. The wifes Elantra takes 4 liters of Havoline 5w30 with a Hyundai OEM filter. I recycle the used oil as a form release mixing it with diesel fuel in my concrete buisiness.

I used to take my car to Tire Discounters because they fixed a flat for me for free.

I've since moved and will probably never have my oil changed again because I am a woman.

I have no mechanical aptitude whatsoever and even those Google videos make it easy for a novice.

Actually, I'd think my post meant quite the opposite. I'm a white collar worker who has never felt the need to do mechanical stuff yet even I can do it by watching those videos.
