gutPeople get their news from Jimmy Fallon and Jon Stewart....why shouldn't they get their history from American Pickers?

Trueblue23Met the two dudes from the show once at a bar, pretty normal guys. Said a lot of the show is put on (duh) and that they both loved fat chicks. 100% true story.

Tigerfan00I hate Said's threads.

rydawg5I read an article that they only drive the van for filming reasons. Like if they are going to a pre-determined house to find pre-purchased items, they actually drive separate and get in the van at the last second to make it appear real. That killed it for me.

GoChiefs
I don't believe thats true. I know a few people that have ran into them at random places and they always had the van.rydawg5;1612212 wrote:I read an article that they only drive the van for filming reasons. rydawg5Here is an article, I don't remember if this was the exact one I read: http://www.westcoasttruth.com/american-pickers-is-fake.html

They had the van when I ran into them. -
bases_loadedI don't watch those shows because I think they're finding all this stuff. I watch it because I think the shit they show is interesting. Same thing with Pawn Stars
-
ts1227I haven't watched it in years, but I don't think this one is as staged as others. Outside of the History Channel helping to locate the shit and telling the people that they'd be on TV, the rest seems to not be too terribly scripted.
As mentioned, it's nice to see the cool shit regardless of how they find it. -

Plus some of the people they meet are damn interesting.ts1227;1612352 wrote:I haven't watched it in years, but I don't think this one is as staged as others. Mole man and his place is awesome.

You haven't watched it in years? It only premiered in 2010.ts1227;1612352 wrote:I haven't watched it in years, but I don't think this one is as staged as others. Trueblue23I liked the episode where they found the old man that had built a mini-town on his property.
-
gutI like the old motorcycles they find. Old toys are pretty cool, too.
I know it's mostly fake and dramatized, but I always look at their "profit" calculations and it seems like the vast majority of the time after trip expenses they'd make like $5 an hour. -
Pick6
If you've ever seen Toy Hunter, its basically the same thing. This guy fly's across the country to buy a few toys to earn $100 profit on each.gut;1612592 wrote:I like the old motorcycles they find. Old toys are pretty cool, too.

Go4alOngbOmBWhen the (insert channel here) Network is helping you locate these things and paying the tab to fly you around the country to get them....I call that winning! They get to geek out with their obsession and not even really worry too much about turning a profit because the network is already giving them their money to live off of! The pressure is off.

They are definitely winning and have a sweet gig.Go4alOngbOmB;1612638 wrote:When the (insert channel here) Network is helping you locate these things and paying the tab to fly you around the country to get them....I call that winning! But their personalities have a lot to do with the success of the show. Other similar shows don't do nearly as well as this and Pawn Stars - Rick and the guy on AP really are pretty good story tellers. -
SizzlePig
that really doesn't make sense. they still have to pick for the business, so why wouldn't they have a van to do so? they may do what you are saying for the staged picks, but i have to think they do some real picking as well.rydawg5;1612212 wrote:I read an article that they only drive the van for filming reasons.
