Kentucky Derby Bets

Yeah, that fucker cost me 8 different wins. I have no clue how much money, cause I have no clue how Boxes or Trifectas or anything are paid out. But had to have put me in the money. Made a bunch of bets for $1 and $2 (total of $120). Stupid horse finishes 5th or lower and I wouldve had the top 4 correct in a trifecta, trifecta box, superfecta box and exacta and exacta box.slingshot4ever;1612272 wrote:35:1 long shot took 2nd....probably screwed all trifectas -

gorocks99Had 4/5/15 on a box trifecta, and had 17 to win on another bet Saturday at Churchill. If I would've just swapped 15 and 17 ....

I would look it up, but we had 4, 5, and 20 as the trifecta, $7 bet. If we would have swapped 17 for 20, it would have paid out almost $10k.Laley23;1612682 wrote:Dont tell me that. Please dont tell me that. -
SportsAndLadyCalifornia chrome wins the Preakness.
Going for the triple crown in 3 weeks. -
wildcats20I really hope it happens. Would be pretty fucking cool.

Laley23Belmont will have more of the Derby horses in it who skipped the Preakness. Longest course in America. Will be tough, but California Chrome seems to be the best of the bunch right now.
-
cat_loverSure would like to see him win the triple crown.

Seems like a lot of analysts weren't all that impressed by the Derby field.Laley23;1617230 wrote:Belmont will have more of the Derby horses in it who skipped the Preakness. Longest course in America. Will be tough, but California Chrome seems to be the best of the bunch right now.
You can't take anything away from a Triple Crown winner, as evidence by 36 years without one. But I kind of feel like I want to see a special/impressive horse finally break the streak (which I'm not sure CC is). But maybe it doesn't matter since no one is going to crown CC the best horse ever - just root to see a rare feat. -

It's hard to look at it either way. Everyone automatically assumes that something that occured mid 20th century is automatically better than the same thing occuring now... but before the last Triple Crown was won in '78, the largest gap between 2 winners since 1919 was 25 years, and all of the rest except 1 (11 years) were less than 10.gut;1617282 wrote:Seems like a lot of analysts weren't all that impressed by the Derby field.

Basically, were the winning horses then more dominant than the winning horses (2 of 3'ers, let's say) now? Possibly. Or, are the fields/the industry as a whole at a higher level now, explaining the largest gap since the last one? Maybe it's a little of both.
As you said, if California Chrome wins it, there's absolutely no reason to take anything aay from the achievement. When you analyze it like I did above, it's difficult to say it's any more or less impressive than it was in, say, 1930 or 1978. It's fucking impressive, and it should be left at that, -

I think he is only like 4th or 5th in the world. Palace Malice is #1 I think. Of course, CC is the best of the eligible horses for the Triple Crown races, which is all that matters. But, typically, I think a horse who wins the 1st two legs and is the favorite by for for the 3rd would be higher than 5th in the world.gut;1617282 wrote:Seems like a lot of analysts weren't all that impressed by the Derby field.

Kind of what I'm getting at....I want a Triple Crown winner to be special, and I haven't seen it in these first two legs....But you could be right about the fields as a whole being better - Preakness time holds its own, but the Derby was slow.ts1227;1617291 wrote: Basically, were the winning horses then more dominant than the winning horses (2 of 3'ers, let's say) now? Of course, maybe if he isn't impressive he'll finally have some adversity at Belmont and become the 12th(?) horse since Affirmed to fail at it. -
like_thatAre any of you guys actually horse experts?
Anyway, Idgaf what the quality of the horse is. I want to see a triple crown winner in my lifetime. -

Agreed. I also think it's cooler that this whitelike_that;1617339 wrote: Anyway, Idgaf what the quality of the horse is. I want to see a triple crown winner in my lifetime.
Trash horse has a chance to do it. Why would you want some million dollar bred by the best horse to do it? I'm rooting for the little guys. -
Laley23
No, but I had to cover 2 horse races for work and you just naturally start to learn the sports you are working.like_that;1617339 wrote:Are any of you guys actually horse experts?

DeyDurkie5Only gut would try and nitpick a potential triple crown winner because he's "not special enough"
-
sportchamppsA couple things...
One his Derby time wasn't special because he could have won by 7-10 lengths if the jockey didn't let up instead he only won by 1 1/2 lengths.
I would say it is 10x harder for a horse to win the triple crown now then it was the last time it happened. In years past all the same horses pretty much ran all three races. Now you have horses that are specialists at the three different track lengths and style. You also have horses who will skip one or two races in hopes of being rested and fresher then the possible triple crown champions. -
wildcats20There is potential he might not race in the Belmont. Something with the New York State Board has to approve the horse wearing nasal strip.
-

That would be fucking stupid and petty.wildcats20;1617377 wrote:There is potential he might not race in the Belmont. Something with the New York State Board has to approve the horse wearing nasal strip. -
sportchamppsI'll have Another a couple years ago wore the same nasal strip and wasn't allowed to wear it at the Belmont which ended up not mattering because a leg injury kept him from going for the triple crown anyway.
horse Racing is kinda like MMA in the way each State has their own commissions and in NY they ban nasal strips. -
SportsAndLadyThat would be very New York of New York to do that.
-
wildcats20They will allow him to wear the nasal strip.

Derby was slow because CC was not truly pressed and eased it around. Preakness was the one to worry about -- shortest race allowing for a speeder to sneak in, plus most were well rested etc... I think CC will have plenty in the tank to finish the Belmont strong, if pressed at all. But, we've been here before many times over the last 35 years, and something always went awry. -

A triple crown winner is special by definition. You are what the scoreboard says you are.gut;1617294 wrote:Kind of what I'm getting at....I want a Triple Crown winner to be special, and I haven't seen it in these first two legs....
