Military frauds

I saw a guy get outed this July at red white and boom. He was in marine blues and was drinking. A guy, who clearly was in the military, approached him to get on him for drinking in uniform in public. After a short argument the guy started asking the guy in uniform questions and he basically couldn't answer any of them correctly. His buddy outed him about 10 minutes later. It was extremely awkward.
That reminds me of the Chips episode where the guy was riding around on the motorcycle, pulling people over and pretending to be CHP. Now of course we the viewer could tell the guy wasn't legit CHP because, while he had the blue patch on his identically colored uniform, it didn't have the official CHP logo. That was lost on the motorists he pulled over. Anyway, this guy didn't seem to have a regular paying job and money seemed no object since he could pursue his dream all day with a top notch bike. His fatal error - thinking he'd get this by Ponch and Jon. There is no way in hell they were going to let that pass for too long. While they understood the guy wanting to imitate his heroes - I mean who doesn't have similar dreams - the fact the he was not highly trained on procedure and law made him a menace tot he freeways. They had no choice but to take him in.

So I guess this Seal guy is kind of like Ponch.

No big deal if someone who isn't a seal says they are a seal? (Honest question-I want to make sure I understood that)

Since the history of mankind, there have probably been people claiming to be something they're not. War veterans, heroic life saver, holocaust survivor, abuse victim, etc. Is it wrong? Of course. THis guy is free to out fake seals all he wants - it's a free country. The cynic in my says that he does it in order to continually publicize the fact that he is a seal and a hero, not for some altruistic fairness doctrine. I do not believe for one second that there is a silent wave of fake seals making off with funds and gifts by the boatload. They are disturbed people and with some exceptions, probably not capable of leveraging the title "Seal" into anything meaningful.

One could argue that only seals have standing to be offended by the lie.

Not sure why you guys are responding to me. I just asked the question.

There are plenty of people who fake being a SEAL. It's the hardest training and the most prestige of all the armed forces. Come out to San Diego. There are plenty of people including other service members who fake being SEALs.

There are plenty of people including other service members who fake being SEALs out here. Stolen Valor is against the law there are people running around pretending to be Veterans to get benefits off of it.

I have no idea why that posted twice.

It's cause we suck the knob of servicemen. That's why people fake it. They want all the glory and none of the work. It's pathetic

I was typing and thinking too fast. Didn't fully explain what I was thinking. I meant it more as the guys who just say they were in the military. They're usually harmless. Just looking for a free meal or drink. They're smaller douches. The guys who imitate seals or special forces guys are a whole other level of douche. They 100% deserve to get outed and made look like the frauds they are. Being a seal or one of those other special duties is a big deal and somethinf most fail at. So I see why they get offended by others faking it.

Seems like most of these people that get outed actually went to seal training or some other training but quickly failed out. Were embarrassed to tell their families and friends and so they pretend they made it.

Then there's the other breed of people like durkie who probably didn't make it out of the recruiting office without being told they should probably do something else and so they really just dislike the military.

I don't doubt there are people who do it and it is wrong. Seals are admirable, tough and brave. There are other badasses in other walks of life who are just as tough though. Pretenders will be found out sooner or later. I believe this guy outs fake Seals in order to keep himself relevant and to constantly remind everyone the he's a Seal.

Plus the videos with he and his wife drinking coffee are d-bag galore.

Tell your wife thanks for doing her job. Collect the paycheck and go to outback for a free bloomin onion.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but probably a good 75% of the people I know that in the military are dudes that were "the shit" in high school, then realized the real world didn't give a fuck how many passing yards you had in a hick ass conference.

How many people do you know in the military? A lot of people do join because they don't have any options but a good amount of enlisted military members are well educated. Plus the pay is actually pretty good once you hit E5.

There are without a doubt shitty people in the military. Just like in any profession.

WWII, Koran and Vietnam era the military was made up on enlisted and drafted individuals. The mix of all social economic, race, personalities and education was the norm. Everyone was trained and the skills taught the same, some learned, while others struggled but in the end each individual was a Soldier. Those who took on leadership responsibilities quickly understood what individual and the task skills they had to best fit the squad situation. You worked with what was given and they learned under fire to perform their skills and duties as a group.
Every individual that has served in the military no matter what the, branch, mos or tour is a “soldier” and will always be deep inside a soldier.
Those that fake any aspect of the military has offended American sons and daughters that are serving their country and to who have had their tour of duty.
Seal, Ranger, Recon, Grunt and every MOS is one thing first a “soldier”
To put one special group as an elite fighting force is OK but please don’t take away from those who support those troops and those who have been cast in combat as less than the elite.

I'm glad to be in the 25% that you know since I was a Choir Boy/Band *** when I was in High School then joined the Military.

Elite means the best of anything collectively. So no, a regular soldier isn't elite.

I knew of 16 guys all under the age of 19 that I would not trade a one for any Seal or Ranger. Elite you bet..... standard 11B / 11C unprofessional, unorthodox and willingly dedicated to duty, the squad and me.

Who cares? Your opinion doesn't make them elite.
  • Tiernan
Sorry Belly the guys in your unit don't qualify as elite no matter how loyal and deicated they may have been. Respected? Hell Yea, Elite? Sorry No.

Scam out there by someone posing as a soldier and says he is from Avon Ohio....

"The person in question is using the name Riggs Scott for his Facebook account. Says he is from Avon, Ohio, been in the army for 6 years but will be getting out May 20th. He is in Afghanistan (he calls it Afgan). He says he is a “poton leader” (platoon leader) but won't tell his rank for security reasons or what unit he belongs to. He said he left for a rescue mission on Friday and suddenly starts messaging us yesterday saying he's been under attack and his personal items are no longer safe there and needs to send them to us--C.O.D. to please provide with a home address-- He has asked others for money but not me yet just hinted around but I told him all my money went to pay my late husband's medical bills and my sons bills. He has no family except for an uncle so is looking for someone to love to spend life with. He is targeting women that have lost their husband thru death or divorce recently in 50ish age range. He sends pictures of himself in uniform." THIS IS A SCAM. Please do NOT fall victim to this. The Army takes care of its own if a Soldier regardless of rank is in trouble there are support channels and means to help. PLEASE do not be a victim. This is the e-mail address he is using [email protected] delete and ban any and ALL contact with this ....... Be safe everybody.
