State Hockey Championship

  Figured this thread needed to get going. For those of you who don't know St Iggy and Sylvania Northview played today in the state title, and after 7 OTs it was declared a tie and both are co-champs. What's everyone think about this? Personally I'm glad it ended, kids had severe hydration issues beginning to settle in and doctors were fearing they would have kids collapsing in the 8th OT. I could not imagine playing a game that long, 10 periods as hard as you can go has to be beyond exhausting. NV goalie made an incredible 83 saves as well!

  Thought it was interesting that NV refused to take the ice.
  
  If doctors really felt the kids were in danger than the right decision was made. But the ohsaa is going to take grief for it ether way.

  After 7 OT's and they were still tied, even without player fatigue/safety issues, it sounds like both teams were evenly matched and a co-championship seems reasonable.
  
  I've never been a fan of shootouts in any sport to determine the winner. But I bet the OSHAA tournament will soon move to one after what happened this year.

  Terrible decision. I read somewhere that these kids have played 3 games a day on certain occasions. If you're going to end it, end it with a shoot out (this coming from a guy whose school lost a national championship in a shootout).

  This happened once before and the schools themselves made the choice not to continue, they had the option per the revised OHSAA rules. If both schools involved were OK with it, everybody else should be too.

  The only people upset are those idiots who live vicariously thru HS athletes. Most of them never put on the numerals but that doesn't stop them from knowing more than career coaches and feel free to boo 16 yr olds.

  I have no problems with it ending in a tie. Clearly they are both champions in this amateur contest.

  ps- do not give a shit about high school sports, especially hockey at any level. Though I do enjoy catching a good playoff/state championship football game.

  Not really. It depends on the sport, division level, the scholarship, D3 "grant", food plan, study tutors, under the table $100 handshake from alumni, etc.

  After thinking more about it, neither team should complain, they should have won it in the first 200 minutes of action if they wanted to be sole champion.
