Legit payoff of a bet or a copout?

So basically the meal is the act of sitting down with him. It doesn't matter what you get. As long as he's sitting in that restaurant, it's a meal.

However, in this case if thevoice wanted a meal then he should have been more specific in the language of the bet. Any decent lawyer would argue the coupon fully satisfies the terms of the bet.

You're basically saying if they go to the bar, and thevoice gets his meal, that the other guy can't pay for it with a coupon.

Get soup, and then another meal later to really screw him over.

He gave him a coupon that everyone in town, including thavoice, also got. That is not proper payment for the bet. If I bet a meal like this with a friend I expect us to enjoy the meal together, loser pays. Bet loser sounds like a real shit head anyway. Waits 4 years to make "good" on the bet and it's with a coupon.

Doesn't seem like how the meal was provided was the bet but rather receiving the meal without cost was.
  • justincredible
It's a bitch move. Plain and simple.
  • Con_Alma
It makes me laugh how venomous people get over someone receiving a free meal as promised.
  • justincredible
I don't care either way because I wasn't involved. But it definitely wouldn't satisfy the terms of any bet that I would make with a friend involving a meal.

A free meal is a free meal - could use that coupon himself and so he's out the cost of a meal just the same. If you want to place additional conditions, then technically it should have been an express part of the bet.

    You gave it away. -$20.

You technically have $20 less than you would if you didn't owe on the bet.

But I disagree with gut's original post. The coupon doesn't cut it.
I didn't pick it up...we both see it at the same time. If I was walking with my friend and we found a $20 bill, we'd either a) split it or b) buy something (liquor) with it that we both benefit from.

Then that's different, since only half of the $20 was yours to give. So if you let him keep the $20 and pull another $10 out of your wallet the bet would be satisfied. It's very simple - he has $20 he otherwise doesn't have.

Seriously, how would handing someone $10 you found on the street be any different than putting that $10 off the street in your wallet and pulling a different $10 out to pay him?

Yeah, if I, in that situation, gave him the $20 we found, AND $10 out of my pocket, the bet is settled.

Put it this way, anyone who pays a bet like this will not be my friend when the conversation ends.

Agreed, but that was probably the point - either he couldn't (girlfriend/wife) or didn't want to have dinner with him.

This thread kind of got hijacked…..

Thavoice-since I know the guy you had this bet with-I am surprised you got anything at all from him and the coupon is his style. (I know-lots of people think he is a great guy, I think he has many "jerk" qualities)

I wonder if I'll get a coupon?? I am FB friends with the owner of the establishment….

How did this thread get hacked? We've been talking about the situation on nearly every post lol

This sounds like a familiar Seinfeld episode.

I think it's a cop out but you should move on. Your friend is a piece of shit.

It's more the concept of waiting 4-5 years for someone to fulfill the terms of a bet AND THEN getting a free coupon for the meal. Kind of thing that makes one think that if no free coupon had been issued by the establishment, the bet never would have been paid off.

It makes me laugh how idiots have problems grasping simple points like that.

I think it has been grasped by all. I don't think it has been thought to be an important differentiation by all.

Possible. Time means nothing to robots.

I simply have a greater appreciation put on the end-result as opposed to the manner it was derived in this type of instance.

He changed the terms & conditions of the bet without sanction from both parties involved (much the same as like_that, S&L, COA, and other Clowns Mafia did to me on the Cleveville total wins bet we had)...and yet nobody GAF when they did.
  • 1_beast
Obviously you need to redeem the coupon for all you can eat wings, wash it down with draft beer. Go to your friends house and graciously leave him with an upper decker.
  • Pick6
jesus h. its 10 damn dollars.
  • thavoice
Yeah It got hijacked to the point where it stayed on topic the whole time! NEver happens

Wallyl..you should have received one in the mail on friday with other coupons.....

Funny little twist..they supposedly sent out 10,000 to the households of the county for freee all you can eat wings, mon-fri.

BUT..it was SUPPOSED TO SAY...$2 OFF of a all you can eat wings (normally (9.99). So.....he still owes me! NOt quite sure what the establishment is going to do with people coming in and expecting free!!
