Favorite web apps/services...

justincredibleHopefully this thread will help people find some helpful apps or services that they didn't know about.
The first two that came to mind for me are IFTTT and Evernote.
IFTTT stands for "If This Then That." It allows you to connect to a bunch of your accounts (facebook, twitter, instagram, dropbox, evernote, etc) and set up triggers based on actions. The following link breaks it down well.

Evernote is awesome if you use it correctly. I basically save everything I ever want to be able to reference at any point in the future in evernote and tag it accordingly. Recipes, bookmarks, todo lists, project planning, etc. I had an account for years and hardly used it. Then I read an article about the need to use it for basically everything you want to remember or reference and it's been great.

Phone Apps:
Waze (ios/Android app) -- crowdsourced real-time mapping information.
Google Now (ios/android)-- "personal assistant". People don't realize how fucking useful it is.
Soundhound (ios/android) -- find music n shit. I only find it more useful than Google's built in search because it keeps a history on what you've "listened" to.
Google Rewards (android) -- occasionally google will prompt you with a survey. upon completion, they'll credit your Google Play account and you can use the funds on paid apps
Trigger (android) -- paired with NFC tags, you can wave your phone over a tag and have it perform actions. For example, when I'm about to go running, I wave my phone over one and it turns on Endomondo, starts playing a song on Google Music, and shuts off Wifi. If you DON'T have NFC tags, you can still program it to do useful things. AKA turn off Wifi when I leave a certain area, etc.
TuneInRadio (android/ios) -- Useful for listening to sporting events, especially when you're on the road.
Computer Applications:
Flux - automatically adjusts the "warmness" of your monitor based on the time of day. Just install it, set your location, and forget it. Use it for a few hours and then disable it. You'll see the difference it's making.
IrfanView -- good for quickly resizing/cropping pictures
Snipping Tool -- Built into Windows Vista/7/8, most people don't even know it exists. Useful for quickly taking a screenshot of a window or particular area of your screen
Steam -- buy games online and they'll download/install without you having to do anything. If you have two computers, just install it on the second computer and you can login with your account and have all of your games at the ready.
Websites:
http://buckeyetraffic.org - traffic for Ohio, obviously.
http://filehippo.com --Great for finding other software.
http://ninite.com -- perfect for when you've just formatted your computer and need to reinstall a bunch of software
http://slickdeals.net -- community-sourced deals on random stuff.
http://retailmenot.com -- coupons. useful when ordering pizza and/or buying random things.
http://ccleaner.com -- cleans up random junk files on your computer. Can probably cause harm, but they've put in "warnings" that will tell you if you're doing something risky.
http://creditkarma.com -- quickly/freely view your credit information
http://annualcreditreport.com -- you can get your credit report from all 3 major bureau's every 12 months for free via this website. (freecreditreport.com is a scam)
http://mint.com -- free budget application. You plug all of your bank accounts into it and it gives you a breakdown of your current financial state.
http://www.buildwithchrome.com/builder -- build legos in your web browser -

Google Now is the same way. About 90% of people I encounter don't even use it, but I think it's the bomb. I set reminders for myself all of the time. "Remind me to buy bread when I go to Meijer" and it will pop up a reminder to buy bread while I'm walking around Meijer.justincredible;1573523 wrote:Evernote is awesome if you use it correctly. I haven't been single in a couple years, but is this app really as great as all my friends say, or are they full of shit? I feel like they always tell me they've got hot matches and nothing ever comes of it.Pick6;1573609 wrote:tinder -
OSHI have all the "deals" apps:
Priceline -- saved $20-30 when traveling on "name your own price" when I was an hour away from a destination.
Hotels.com
Kayak
Southwest
Allegiant -- utilized this app while waiting in line to check-in, installed it, skipped everyone with my boarding pass on my phone
Hot Head Burritos -- daily deals with it
Chipotle -- easy to order from and just go pick it up
I have a few others, but don't know all of them off the top of my head. -
sportchamppsGas buddy - locates cheapest gas near your location also sends alerts when prices start to rise
Photon - lets my iPad use flash player
i heart radio app
Soundhound -

I Wear PantsLastPass - It's a password manager because I've got too many damned accounts.
https://lastpass.com/
Zotero - It's a browser and Office add-on for managing citations and research. Makes planning and writing papers much less of a hassle.

gutI love widgets, and also like to be able to download articles to read offline....GReader Pro is easily the best - caches the articles and then when you click on a story in the widget it launches a nicely formatted article from cache.
Also a long-time fan of Pure Messenger Widget - texts, calls, twitter, and FB all in one widget (does gmail and email, too, but you have to install modded apps for it to work)
Google Currents is also the bomb. -

I actually do not use it, but it seems like a lot of people around my age and single do. I figure if you are looking for a random hook up it might be worth it, but I couldn't imagine finding a girlfriend type on there.GOONx19;1573657 wrote:I haven't been single in a couple years, but is this app really as great as all my friends say, or are they full of shit? Pocket is another great app that I use a lot. -
like_that
I used it when i was single. Works pretty well in terms of hooking up, probably wouldn't have dated most of the girls i encountered though. Also depends on where you live. If you live in bumfuck, ohio it probably won't work out well. it seems like city girls are more open to stuff like tinder.GOONx19;1573657 wrote:I haven't been single in a couple years, but is this app really as great as all my friends say, or are they full of shit? justincredibleMy brother-in-law is seeing someone he found using tinder. She just happens to be our backyard neighbor.
