Wow! How we sometimes forget those simple pleasures in life and don’t take the time to turn back the pages of our childhood roots.
I was so inspired that I thought all day what was something that was so good, so memorable as a kid or as a young adult that my mom made or we did as a family that I just haven’t had in a long time or done.
So after much thought and little time I came up with Haluska galuska “Hungarian fried cabbage and noodles. My grandma would prepare this huge skillet, loaded with butter … simple but WOW as a kids I loved this meal… I made it last night and share it with my one daughter and her family. The two grandkids loved it … watching my grandson was priceless.. smelled like gas and producted gas part to the memory.
I am going to start sharing some of those favorite things with my grandkids and daughters as a family.
When summer comes I’m going to find a country road have my grandkids ride in the back bed of my truck. But first I’m going to load a bail of hay, it would be the same without hay flying every where.
Wife and I will be go to a Midvale Stock car race, dig a hole cover it with plywood for the kids, spray paint our name on a bridge, make root beer, make cracklins and try to make grandma apple turnover with lard.
What are some of those simple things or events that you loved and remembered as a kids/young adult but haven’t taken the time to share with your kids, grandkids, wife or family and even your friends?
