Why?

  • SnotBubbles
Do people on social media keep posting pictures of some major winter storm with 18+" of snow before Christmas when every weather website in the world is calling for 40+ degree temperatures?

Can someone (preferably Jym Ganahl) explain this to me?

Ganahl does it because he's a junkie.

    Obama's fault

Because they are wrong and wishfully thinking.

I think it'll go north and west as well, but yeah this thing is gonna be a monster storm for someone. I think Chicago over into Saginaw will be the big winners, but the moisture on this thing is unreal. You want rain, because the in-between is going to be a crippling ice storm

    Because I said so...that's Why.

I'm still curious why every year people talk about the Farmers Almanac and how awful of a winter it's going to be.

if you are looking for a serious answer, the reason is that weather forcasters rely on one or more of 4 or 5 major computer models to aid in their forecasts...the one you are posting and the one that is showing the serious 18 inch snowfall is called the 'euro' model and it shows the cold to slip farther south, resulting in that torrent of rain predicted for Saturday/ Sunday by the other models to turn to snow. The other models are showing the warm to be farther north, and that is what most forecasters are going with...right now.

That's great, but I'm waiting for Ts1227 to say the same thing. ;)

That's not the reason why though. What you are saying is true, but the question is why are they being floated around Facebook? The answer to that is young guys that get boners over big weather, and posted 1st run models that everyone knew wouldn't be true.

That's the exact answer I was looking for. Thank you. Euro models should stick to Europe. Assholes.

This thread is now about European Models.

I'm pretty sure Euro models have been much better at predicting the paths and strengths of hurricanes and other severe weather systems over the past few years, but someone with more weather knowledge might know better and I could be wrong on that.

I sure hope it's wrong, I'm not interested in 18 inches of snow during a time when I can't just sit in my basement. Too much work just to get out of the driveway.
