Looking to make plans for the 2014 Football state championships.

  • Zombaypirate
I know it is early to be talking about the 2014 state championships but, I like to be prepared. Are there any Ohio chatter members that live near the OSU stadium that would like to make a few extra dollars? The hotel rates down there are freaking crazy I would rather give my hard earned money to someone who may attend the games and would gladly pay to stay and perhaps have someone to BS with at the game? If anyone is interested please post here or send me a PM.

dumb they are moving it there. Should be kept in Canton. Seems like its usually mostly NE Ohio teams there anyways.

I agree, The Shoe will look empty where it's so big compared to Canton

Dumb that it gets moved to a centralized location?

2012 DI Cincinnati Moeller and Toledo Whtimer, DII Toledo Central Cathloic and Trotwood Madison, DIII ASVSM and Bellevue, DIV Clinton Massie and St. Clairesville, DV Coldwater and Kirtland, DVI Maria Stein and Newark Catholic.

2011 DI St. Ignatious and Pickerington Central, DII Trotwood Madison and Avon, DIII Cardinal Mooney and Springfield Shawnee, DIV Norwayne and Kenton, DV Kirtland and Coldwater, DVI Marion Local and Buckeye Central.

By my count that's 8 out of 24 particpants in the state finals the last 2 years from Northeast Ohio, I don't feel like researching anymore than that.

You may want to post this in the HS football forum as well.

Dumb that games that draw 10k (if that) will be held in a 100,000 seat stadium.

Crew Stadium is a much better option IMO if we're talking about centralized location...but the grass there wouldn't hold up to 7 games over 2 1/2 days.

You don't think 100,00 seat Shoe could hold 10,000 HS fans?

Or perhaps you think the kids would be noticing the empty seats up top? I personally believe the kids would love to be able to play at the Shoe and it's the State Championship. The kids probably don't care about anything other than whats going on in-between the lines.

Can't spell Canton without "can't", LOL.

    Worthless city.

They've got hotels to put up 105K for an OSU game down there, and every game except D1 will draw less than 5K. Hotel prices won't even budge from a normal weekend

Population center of Ohio is northeast of Columbus.

Does that mean only the NE participates? It's already been said that's incorrect.
  • ts1227
No, but you can pretty much say that Southeast doesn't. Your bulk is northern half (not necessarily NE) with Columbus and Cincinnati rounding it out.

Any way you slice it, be it population or participants, the "center" will always be well north of Columbus. Combine that with the fact that no one in that area gives a shit about HSFB, and you get a flop in 2014-15

Which is still more than any other region in Ohio.
Are they playing every game at the shoe?

    Yes.

Atmosphere will suck. Sorry but PBTS and HOF are awesome places, there probably is not a better place in the country to watch HS Football. The Shoe may be the biggest stadium in the state but it is not the home of HS football, stark county is

So NEO has a slight percentage more in the finals, so some schools from SWO have to drive 3+ hours 1 way, 3+ hours from Western Ohio and 3+ hours from SEO, to play? lol

When is the last time a southern Ohio team like Piketon made the finals? Who cares how far you drive anyways. Its not like 3 1/2 hours is killer. We had a few 2hr bus trips in my time..and thats just the regular season. The pro football hall of fame and PBTS is a great atmosphere.

Good lord, is it really that big of deal? I thought it was in Columbus all this time already.

It makes sense to have it in Columbus.

3.5 hour drive for a HS kid isn't a killer? While other kids can be there in 15 minutes?

    Laughable.

I'm one that's for it being centralized, but these kids are going to play for the state championship. Do you really think the length of a bus ride matters to them? Doubtful
  • hasbeen
    That's not what I said.

I said that it was a killer. Talking about performance. A long ride, especially for a HS aged kid, can lower their performance.
