Calling all runners...

  • Scarlet_Buckeye
I wanted/needed a new pair of running shoes. Went to Dick's Sporting Goods and was going to get another pair of Nike's. Was looking at Zoom Vomero+ 8 and Free 5.0+ (namely because I wanted something "loud" and "lightweight"). Started talking to the salesmen and did a quick little Google searching, and ended up deciding to role with a pair of Brooks' Ghost 6 instead.

    Thoughts?

    Don't like the Nike

It's your money and your feet...get what you want.

The brand doesn't matter nearly as much as the model of shoe supporting your pronation and gait.

Can't really comment on it being a good shoe for you without knowing your foot strike and roll pattern.

You're better off going to a running shoe/athletic place (that's not Dick's Sporting Goods) and they'll actually watch you run and will know what direction to steer you in.

Anyone who says "DONT RUN IN (brand) UR STUPID!" isn't worth listening to since everyone's feet hits the ground in different ways.

Personally the only shoe I can run in are Asics.

    Exactly.

Dont go to the box stores to buy shoes, unless you already know your make and model you want/like and just are going there to pick it up, or if the new model came out for a shoe you use and you want to try it out.
BUt if you are truly shopping for what shoes are best, go to a running specialty store. I used to go with 3-4 styles in mind that got great reviews/recommendations and would try them out, and hated how they felt and always ended up with something I never thought I would.

There are beer snobs, and running shoe snobs. I have tried quite a few and right now I found a line that I really like and that is the Nike LUnarfly. (They started out as NIke Avant, then changed the name at the next model to lunarfly to go along the lines of their lunar platform). Have had all the versions. The newest one coming out is the 360. Have not tried it and I am not sure because they have a big strap an dlooks like to shoestrings. So I went onto ebay and bought an older version of th elunarfly's.

Picking by ANYTHING OTHER than comfort, feel and how work for you is just plain stupid.

Have you tried the Lunarfly's? I have had the first 4 versions and its predecessor, Avant, and loved them.

Haven't heard of Lunarfly's. Will have to keep an eye out for them and see.

They are on the lunar technology they are using on some shoes. In the box stores they seem as if Nike is pushing the lunarglide's right now. I tried them, but didnt like them quite as much and now rotate 2 pairs of lunarfly's and one lunarglide. I hated the glides for the longest time as they killed my feet so stopped runing in them. Been wearing them to work for 6-8 weeks and it just took that long to really get them broken in, and now I can run in them. Kinda wierd.

Went for a run on Sunday (1st time in my new Brooks Ghost 6's) and I loved them. Felt like a nice, soft cushion-y ride. Actually looking forward to going for a run tonight!

I'm glad you got the Brooks over the Nike.

Personally I like the Saucony Progrid. Think that's the same shoe 609 posted above with the 4mm heel drop.
*Are you a heel striker? If so you would like the Brooks Ghost then. If you're more if a midfoot strike consider looking at the Saucony.

Are you around C-bus? Legit running stores will check out your feet by having ya walk around in just your socks and see if any pronation issues. Some will even let ya take a short test run.

Some places will let ya take a run, sometimes even outside. Endurance sports let ya go outside and run up and down the parking lot if you wanted.

One thing I found that works is when trying on your many styles you want to try, once you start to compare and narrow them down put one on the right, other brand on the left, and then you get a step by step comparision and can help when you get down to a few models you like.
