Belly going game

  • Belly35
Ok the last play type station the Belly family owned was a Nintendo 64, not a clue where that when.
With the grandkids getting older and playing things like Skylander and Infinity, visiting more, staying over night, plus my daughters and their husband all into this type of stuff... I need help. What type of play station unit is best?

I have a 64” TV and a 38” TV I like to connect this to the 38” but with the option of easy connect to the 64” TV also. The 38” TV is in the upstairs extra room with lot of space. The 64” TV in the family room. What is the best play type station … that would best fit my needs?
I do know that the Skylander and Infinity requires addition components which are not compatible so it will have to be one or the other.

I got nothing so I’m starting new.. Suggestion on what to buy?

IMO - Playstation 3 but soon the PS4 will be coming out.

Here is an article* on the differences between the new ps4 and new xbox one soon to be released.

*If not interested in reading the linked article - PS4 is a lot better than xbox one.

Belly for you I would suggest a Wii. Especially if it will mostly be used by young kids.

Or just get a PS4 or Xbox One.

You could always just keep it old school and go out and buy a N64, SNES, NES, Sega, or Atari.

    No mention of Dreamcast? GFY!!!

In terms of old school, I prefer Sega Saturn. Mainly because nobody else I knew had that growing up. It was released only about a year before the N64, though, so it was outdated quite quickly.

Not interested in old school ...

Does the PS4 or Xbox let you play the skylander and Infinity games with the docking station connection?

PS4 or Xbox ???? Question: Can this connect direct to the 38" TV?
  • Heretic
The systems can connect directly to any modern TV. My 360 (and PS2) are both on my flatscreen and I had no problems with those connections. And I'm not the most technologically-sound person.

Pretty sure skylander and Infinity are Wii, PS3 or xbox 360 and yes I'm confident they will come with everything you need to directly connect to the tv.

I think you'd be fine getting either a playstation 3 or xbox 360. Is this going to be a surprise Christmas gift? Can ya ask your family members what gaming system they prefer?
Personally the only game I like is on ps3. Have never been a fan of the xbox.

True the new gaming systems are coming out soon but the two games you asked about (skylander and Infinity) are for the older (current) gaming systems.

this is kinda a gift to the family so everyone can enjoy when they visit and we can play as a family ...
Should I wait for the ps4 or buy the ps3 now and cheaper? I don't care about saving any money just want what best. This will most like the last purchase of something like this for me.

Obviously the PS4 is going to be better than the PS3. Video game consoles aren't like Rocky movies, they don't get worse because the # gets higher.

Xbox probably has too many buttons for Belly.

This. If you don't game on PC, you're a jerk.

But if you must. Check out the new Steam console. I will be able to play my 200+ games on my TV.

Depends on what the real purpose for the console is. If you're looking for something for the family to do together as a fun pastime (going off your posts on some game thread where you were wondering about the purpose of playing a lot of games), the Wii U might be the best bet as I think Nintendo is the best of the three main companies as far as family fun sorts of games like Mario Party and whatnot.

The PS4/XBox One are more of the high-powered sorts of things that'll be huge for things like big-budget games and online play, but might not be the best for full family sorts of stuff.

Depends on what you're looking for in a system, though.

    family or multi player games

Wii U might be the one to seriously look at, then. As Sony and Microsoft got more into adult gaming, Nintendo's always been firmly behind family-oriented stuff.

I said Sega!!! I didn't specify which one.

Now if you wanted to get upset because I didn't say the Game Cube then I'd see your point even though that was the worst.

^ Good stuff. Also to note the Wii sports games (bowling/golf/HR derby) are awesome when partying it up drinking and stuff.

** I can see Belly really gettin' into Metal Gear Solid 2- Snake eater. He'd love facing "The End" on the old man sniper mission.

The End is MGS3. I remember rage-quitting that game after 30 minutes of fruitless stalking where I nearly killed the old bastard once, but he got away, I couldn't find him quickly enough and he regen'd all his health.

Thx for correction. MGS3. What a kick ass game.

Gets a pS4 or Xbox 1. The life cycle on systems are a lot longer then before. The 360 was out for almost 7 years. If you buy a ps4 now as the kids get older they will still have something to play instead of looking at a 360ps3 or wii as something kids played a long time ago.
  • I Wear Pants
Belly, you'd be fine getting an Xbox 360 or PS3 they have tons of games your grand kids love and are available. If you wanted to get the newest things PS4 and Xbox One both look really cool and since they're new they'll be supported for at least 5-10 years.

For Nintendo products I'd only suggest the Wii U since it's their current one.

Kudos for trying to get some fun things for the kids, honestly I'd just talk to their parents to see what their favorites are.
