Preppers on the OC … q/a

  I have few cases of bottle water, some dried / canned food, few flash lights, batteries, I do have a bug out bag on ready. I have pistols and ammo but that because I like owning and shooting pistols and somewhat of a hobby.
  
  Question and Answers for those who are serious Preppers:
  
  I need to get the wife a rifle .. I was thinking about .22LR Semi-auto over a .223. Opinions or Suggestions?
  
  I’ve been thinking about getting an APC M113A1 or A2 to restore. I was in the 25th Div so I have memorable reason to restore one. In the blizzard of 1978 the local National Guard Unit and I used them to support remote family in need of help in the Perrysburg area.
  
  I feel this would be a good vehicle to have hanging around? Opinions

  We buy APC's at work but only for consistency sake because that's the brand we've always bought.
  
  
  
  You can probably find cheaper brands online. I have a CyberPower at home and it works well. It really saved me during the big storm a few years ago. It held my computer for almost 30 minutes before it safely shut down my computer.

  I'm toast. No weapon, no water, little to no dry/canned goods. Although the hot water tank holds 50 gallons.
  
  I need to go stock-up again. We've seen major power outages last for up to a week or more, so it's pretty dumb not to have at least a 7-day supply of food and water (along with plenty of firewood, but a generator would be ideal).

  I agree with this. There are some people that take "prepping" to the extreme and come of as nut jobs, but there really is no excuse not to have some sort of stash just in case.

  I've always assumed if you're near any city of decent size that the roads are quickly jammed. You have a chance if you're on the less densely populated outskirts/suburbs, but a dirt bike is probably the most practical bug-out vehicle (assuming people aren't rioting).

  Maybe, but if you leave your house you're going to lose all of your possessions that may have value in a barter economy. Not to mention you lose the value of your neighbors who you can trust more than a random group that forms in the wilderness.

  If I had enough notice I'd bolt from the city and head to my mom's. No need to head into the wilderness. If the SHTF overnight, I think I'd be screwed. If any sort of rioting/looting started up our neighborhood would be one of the first hit. We are surrounded by filthy rich people (Reds owner Bob Castellini lives just down the street) so I'd imagine they would be early targets and we would get caught up in it.

  That's the problem on a bike, but if you need to bug out then clearly those "possessions" have limited value (i.e. dirty bomb).
  
  And I wouldn't trust my neighbors all that much. Unless they are good friends, if the shit is really hitting the fan they are probably much more concerned about their family surviving than their relationship with you.

It's unlikely that more than a few people have the excess necessary goods to trade, and then you have to know who they are and be able to find and communicate/trade. In such scenarios, only food/water/fuel/weapons have any real value. Does me no good to trade food for any amount of gold if I don't know where I can get more food tomorrow.

  That's why part of me doesn't understand why people always say stock up on GOLD, food, and ammo. Ugh, just food and ammo would be sufficient. Perhaps learn a few skills that don't require technology.

  Yeah, gold is about preservation of capital in an event of financial/currency collapse. It assumes the economy continues to function, or returns to functioning shortly. In either case, wouldn't you rather be selling goods for gold rather than trying to buy goods with gold?

  The APC would be for the transporting of my family and friends. 16 people plus supplies can be carried in a APC
  plus I always wanted one ... On the bucket list

  .22LR for game is an acceptable answer. The rest aren't really. .223 is no problem for a female to handle, even petite ones. And there was/is no .22 available during a simple panic after a school shooting. It sure as shit won't be available in an actual crisis.
  
  If you are really prepping, I would have both. One for the small game hunting. The other for defense.

  and you have a max speed of 4 mph. if the world is at end fuel economy should also be a concern.

  Truthfully I'm not sure anything beats a well-stocked sailboat. Goes doubly if you are a skilled fishermen.

  Belly - what disaster are you prepping for? All doomsday preppers have a specific disaster they think will happen first.
