Gun violence. We just becoming numb?

  • thavoice
The last couple of shootings, airport and mall, didnt seem to really get people up in arms because it didnt cause mass casualties like some in the past.

Are we just getting immune and numb to it all and just shrug it off unless it is a huge spree or happens to someone close to us?

It seems like less and less really shocks people anymore.

Numb? Maybe, but not because there are more of them. I think it's due to all the media coverage they give to them.

Exactly. If they feel the need to push an agenda, it would get covered non-stop.

It was a black on black crime. That's why the media ignored it.

I think the lack of coverage is a good thing. Wish that was always the case.

We're not becoming numb to gun violence - or more accurately - violence involving the use of guns.

As others have pointed out it's relative to what the media deems newsworthy at that moment in time and generally only if that "newsworthy" incident helps further a political agenda namely gun control.

Gun violence has been around since - well - guns have been around. The difference now is we get instant information via various news sources so incidents of gun violence appear to be more prolific than in the past and that simply isn't the case.

The media is on board with gun control advocates so they will cherry pick gun violence incidents to "prove" their point.

If we've become numb to gun violence it's more of a collective STFU mindset to the obvious media cherry picking than becoming callous to the actual violence itself.
