HS football team wins 91-0. Gets accused of 'bullying'

  • Manhattan Buckeye
Stupid....the issue with football is that you can't tell a team to not run plays or else you might as well punt the ball on 1st down. Which is more embarrassing? In other sports, such as basketball the coach can somewhat "call off the dogs" by benching the starters, dropping into a zone and telling the offense not to shoot 3's and try to run out the clock. Doesn't really work with football.

You can take out your starters in football, run basic run plays, and try to run out the clock.....which is exactly what the coach did lol

The other team just couldn't stop them. (By the way, I saw a tweet of one of the players on the losing team saying it's stupid the other coach is getting criticism for this, and that they would want to beat a team 91-0 if they had the chance)

What's sad is the HC will probably end up losing his job

It sounds like the losing team is being good sports about it. No one wants to be in a blowout - again my experience was mostly in basketball and being on both sides of a 50+ point game it isn't fun for the winning or losing team. That said, being on the losing side the last thing I would want is for the other team to stop competing....even with guys at the end of the bench.

They knew beforehand it would be a blow out. It shouldn't have been scheduled.

exactly. was thinking the same thing.

Is the kid on the football team? Right now he's saying....."mom.....WHY DID YOU DO THIS?!"

kid prob' will change his name and transfer to some private school.

Yeah, if the mom didn't have a legitimate bullying claim before, she will now. Her kid is gonna get blasted.

There isn't a word for the stupidity of this.
  • justincredible
No chance I'd let my mom file that claim. Luckily, my mom isn't a dumbass so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

You play to win, you play hard, you fight for the extra yard, tackle with aggression and execute each play as designed to score or stop the opponent. From the first team starters to the fourth team rookies this is how the game is played and taught. This is simple guideline for success and a winner if you can’t achieve those basic you will lose. Bullying.. get you head out of your ass and face reality mom the team lost and lost badly…. Take a lesson, work harder for next season or do not schedule to play teams with higher standard for achievementand and more skilled
To blame the other team, blame the coach, blame the ref… blame, blame and more blame, mom your team own the lose this is where the blame starts and stops.

This is what we have in today society because of the mentality of moms like this, everyone get to play, everyone makes the team, no identity of starters or subs, no try-outs, lower standards for the unskilled and non-dedicated can play, blame others for failure…. Bullshit

I don't think I have ever agreed with one of your posts, until now.

    This is 100% correct.

I hope the kid who's parents filed the claim gets beat up...by his own teamates.

"Thanks dude. Until your idiot Mom went and did this shit we were only the laughing stock of East Bumphuk. Now the whole Fkn nation knows we suck."

The best thing that could happen is the mom apologies to both team, gains some humility for her lack of knowledge of the true game of sport and sportsmanship. Taking a lesson that unjustified blaming is not the answer to failure

There's only so much you can do in an example like this.

I recall a game where my alma mater won 80-6. Starters didn't see the field in the second half. Even the second stringers were pulled midway through the third quarter. Ran a very basic, run-only offense with the reserves ... most of it between the tackles (a lot of the calls were 0-traps). It was basically a chance for the underclassmen to get some experience with the basics of the playbook.

The problem was, the plays were still going for big gains. We didn't dress freshmen, so there wasn't much else to do.

(Won't mention the team for fear of being called a bully.)

last I read, which was a few days ago, is that the claim was anonymous

I saw a blurb about a team in Texas that played in a fairly weak division and routinely was blowing out opponents and yanking starters in the 2nd half. Every year, the team would make it to the playoffs and then quickly bow-out in their first or second game. The coach noted that his players were probably not used to playing 4 quarters since they were typically only getting 2.5-3 quarters of game time each week, so the next season he kept his foot on the throttle, left his starters in the entire game, and blew everyone on their schedule out.

    http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/refugio-bobcats-%28refugio,tx%29/football-fall-12/schedule.htm

It's one thing to call out the above coach for doing something like that (though I can see his rationale), but it's another to be a ***** like this parent is and claim that yanking your starters and playing a conservative game plan is bullying.

Speaking of bullying, I thought this was appropriate:

    http://fox8.com/2013/10/22/high-school-football-player-kicked-off-team-suspended-over-poem/

    Exerpt:

RITTMAN, Ohio– 16-year-old Nick Andre says his assignment last Friday in composition class at Rittman High School was to write a poem about something that makes him angry.

The junior defensive end on the Rittman football team chose to write a poem he entitled “Stupid,” about the Indians season so far, which has consisted of one win and seven losses. Andre told FOX 8, “I felt like it was my right to express what I just felt.”

As part of the assignment, Andre read the poem in class and when the administration at Rittman High learned about the content, the principal concluded that Andre, “Wrote a mean and disrespectful poem about another student and our athletic director/head coach.” The principal classified the poem as “hazing, harassment.”

    LOL!

This is the victim society, Belly. Where life isn't fair and it's ALWAYS someone else's fault when outcomes don't get meted out fairly. Social Justice it's called. Winners got to be that way by unfairly exploiting the losers and someone has to make sure everyone gets the same result, no matter the efforts put forth.

Surprised the charges didn't also note that no cookies and fruit punch were shared with her kid after the game.

Unless there are some pretty drastic changes by the time we have kids that are of schooling age they will not step foot in a public school. Especially if Common Core sticks around.
