Tired of the Pink campaign?

This. Its become more about who can make money OFF it, not FOR it.Fab4Runner;1521851 wrote:It doesn't bother me. I am more worried about charities not getting the percentage of proceeds they should be getting.

I think that is what the OP is getting at, whether he realizes it or not.Fab4Runner;1521851 wrote:It doesn't bother me. I am more worried about charities not getting the percentage of proceeds they should be getting.

Classyposter58Agreed, it's major overkill. Good lord all I see in these games I ref is all pink everything and I know of a school in a Detroit suburb that does some huge pink out game. IMO I would rather give to AIDS since there is no cure for it and it is a much more destructive thing. I just think being pink is the cool thing to do now, I'm gonna be pissed if I have to buy a pink whistle, pink bean bags and a pink lined hat
-
vball10setI prefer that the emphasis be on research and cure more than the awareness. The pink has/had it's place, but I agree it's out of control. It's become more of a fashion statement than an awareness symbol.

I also find it hilarious that women only seem to care about breast cancer and female related everything whereas male diseases rarely get any attention. This is why women will always be the weaker sex; they can be manipulated much easier because their emotions seem to override any common sense, logic, and reason(also why a good chunk of women vote for the left; because the left is very good at manipulating the emotional side of people). -

Donating to any cause is good, so don't think I am judging you or anything. Just putting the numbers out there. In 2009 (the most recent year numbers are available)— 40,676 women and 400 men in the United States died from breast cancer. -
I Wear PantsI think everyone would rather these groups take the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's approach towards problems. Relatively low key and focused on results.

Saw this argument on Facebook. My stance is, 8% > 0%.Scarlet_Buckeye;1521878 wrote:THIS! It's definitely become more of a "marketing campaign" than a "cancer awareness", anytime 8% of sales is actually going into research. WHAT IS THE OTHER 92% OF SALES GOING TOWARDS?!?!?! -

sportchamppsI am wiling to deal with Pink because even if it's just promoting awareness it's also reminding people like my mom sister or wife to get checked and possibly prevent their death. A little bit of overkill is worth the .0000001% that this saves their lives some day. I actually really liked donating to the livestrong foundation and their still one of the two charges I donate to along with the kidney foundation.

#1DBagThe pink campaign is a hoax.
Men, in general, do not view themselves as a collective and represent their own interests. When interests are represented, feminists and manginas take offense. -
BRFYes, I am tired of it.
In addition, it's just a way to help males weasel their way into copping some cheap feels.
So.........congratulations guys! Good job! -
rydawg5I'm cool with it.

Do you remind your mom and sister to get their heart checked since heart disease is the #1 killer of people? Please send them daily reminders because overkill is okay provided it saves .000000001% of lives. I mean seriously are you a woman? Only a woman would come up with bullshit like this. -

Except the money raised for breast cancer in any given year is 'x' and Komen spends money tearing down all other breast cancer organizations so they can protect their money making scheme. That 'x' could be allocated more efficiently towards research instead of the being thrown away to the corrupt Komen organization. I mean 8%?! LOLse-alum;1522083 wrote:Saw this argument on Facebook. I Wear PantsSleeper is an idiot/troll but he's right in regards to Koman's legal bullshit. If the only thing they did wrong was spend too much on advertising/profiting I'd agree with the 8%>0% statement. But reality is that they're a shitty litigation factory in addition to their other bad traits.

TiernanIf one single 38 DD on a nice frame gets saved because of it...well then damn it I'm all for it!

believerI have no problem with the pink hoopla in bringing awareness to the breast cancer issue.
And while I don't even have any problem with anyone making a buck in the process, it has certainly reached an annoying saturation point that will eventually fade away like any other craze.
For example, last year I saw a lot of local Pop Warner football teams wearing pink, but this season not nearly as much. Keep in mind these kids tend to be carted to the games by their pink-wearing soccer mommies. -
TedShecklerI like pink socking chicks.

Ohio State "should" be wearing its alternate rivalry uniform Saturday, a source tells me. Pink gloves, socks will be worn by players.

I didn't really word that very well. I don't agree w/ organizations like the Komen, and the Red Cross(which I refuse to give to). However, 8% is still a large amount of money. Should research be getting more? Absolutely, but every dollar given certainly helps. Personally, I prefer to give to small local charities, in lieu of these large "non-profits".I Wear Pants;1522208 wrote:Sleeper is an idiot/troll but he's right in regards to Koman's legal bullshit. pmoney25I rock the Orange Wrist band for bladder cancer. A cancer that needs more awareness for sure
