Going to Mexico in February and I haven't left the country since Passports were mandatory. How long does it take to get them?
  • dlazz
I think up to a few months, with the average turnaround being 3-4 weeks.

Yeah I was gonna say a few weeks to a few months. Don't waste your money on the expedited service. I had 2 friends turn in the paperwork on the same day, one chose expedited and his arrived 3 weeks after the other one.

This. I got mine renewed in February, and the wife got hers redone because of the name change in June. Both were 3 weeks door to door with the normal service.

How much do they cost? Maybe I'll get one, even though I rarely leave the 614.

Mine took a little over three weeks. You might as well apply for it now.

I think it's right around 100. It's been too long since I got mine.

    or a cruise.

I had to go to Canada earlier this summer. Applied for the passport about 5-6 weeks before leaving and had it in plenty of time. I forget how much it cost. $100-$120 range. Make sure you bring everything. You can print/fill out the documents beforehand to save time. You need your birth certificate, and bring scanned copies of your drivers license.

Yeah, I didn't realize that. I thought it was only with Canada and Mexico.

don't believe you need a passport for a cruise. Driver's license and birth certificate worked for me when I went to the Bahamas in January.

If it starts and ends in the US this is generally true, I think they prefer driver license though because of the picture.

At any of the ports, all they want to see is a ship card and a photo ID.

Not trying to bring politics into this, but be aware any government shutdown would suspend passport processing until a resolution is reached.
