That's pretty damn crazy.brutus161;1501626 wrote:My best friend works in the building where he was shooting. He had forgot his work cell, and had to turn go back home to get it. He drove off the base about ten minutes before the shooting. His kids are still in the daycare, and they can't get back on base to get them. -
tk421So, I've heard that the shooter at first only had a shotgun, killed a couple guards and then took their weapons. Don't know if that's true or not.
-
bases_loadedThat can't be....CNN said it was an assault rifle...an AR-15 civilian assault rifle to be exact....

reclegend22Is the naval complex still on lockdown (it sounds that way as of about two hours ago, according to the poster brutus above). Fox News seems to be the only channel really still covering the event as this time, which is somewhat odd. The Sandy Hook shooting (admittedly "worse," if any mass shooting is worse than another) had round-the-clock coverage for days.

Sandy hook had viewer potential to the media outlets. Sad, but this tragedy doesn't sell. It's pathetic really.reclegend22;1501734 wrote:Is the naval complex still on lockdown (it sounds that way as of about two hours ago, according to the poster brutus above). Agreed. It's a twisted thought, but every time something like this happens, I imagine a party atmosphere in many newsrooms. It's fucking sick. This guy from CNN was filming a woman in her car, in tears, trying to call her husband who was trapped inside the building to see if he was still alive. After she got a hold of him, the first thing the reporter asked was if her husband got a good look at the shooter. STFU.SportsAndLady;1501753 wrote:Sandy hook had viewer potential to the media outlets. Sad, but this tragedy doesn't sell. It's pathetic really. -

While I echo your thoughts 100%, its not the news outlets fault.reclegend22;1501757 wrote:Agreed. Nobody watches the other shit. Its a proven fact. They know EXACTLY what they are doing and how to get the ratings. Blame the American public. -

Yeah I imagine the head guy at CNN going "no kids?" Guy responds no. Then just kinda shrugs it off.reclegend22;1501757 wrote:Agreed. I def blame the public. Heard a stat something about there's more Americans killed in Chicago than in Afghanistan since 2001. Yet you don't see coverage of the death tolls in Chicago.Laley23;1501760 wrote:While I echo your thoughts 100%, its not the news outlets fault.

Americans are retarded. Hence why honey boo boo has her own show. -
tk421No children were killed, so it won't sell. You can't sell banning guns for the children when all the victims were 46 and older.
Just heard on Fox News (ha ha Faux, I know) about a secretary general report that the Navy Yard security isn't up to spec. Ya, you think? -

REALLLLLLLLLLY? Explain to me why network news ratings are in the tank and have been steadily declining for years then..Laley23;1501760 wrote:While I echo your thoughts 100%, its not the news outlets fault.

I'm not going to argue against American's being retarded, that is certainly true. But you don't hear about Chicago because the media is in bed with the government. Period. It doesn't fit the narrative. That's it. Plenty of people are interested in the other side of the story, plenty of alternative media sources cover it and are growing exponentially every month. Same reason Piers Morgan was running around like a moron saying this guy did this with a legally purchased AR-15 before the facts were even known (although the female victim who was shot in the head, yet her skull wasn't penetrated should have been a pretty clear sign to anyone who knows anything about guns that a rifle wasn't used)...it's all about a narrative and an agenda. American's are retarded, but it doesn't excuse reckless media.SportsAndLady;1501765 wrote:I def blame the public. Who is going to wait around for the news when you can get it instantly?
That was not even close to the point though. -

I was at the Navy Yard...
I know none of you are going to believe me because I'm not LJ therefore I haven't been everywhere and done everything. However, I was at the Yard working as a Financial Consultant during the time of the shooting. I literally heard gun shots outside the office that I was bunkered down in. Scariest time of my life and glad to be out okay.
I'd love to comment on the thread in Serious Business but as we know I've committed a tragedy that puts this one in its place; I offended LJ and I repent daily.
If there was more legal weapon carrying individuals and less unrestricted areas there would be more dead bad guys.I Wear Pants;1502460 wrote:ITT: If only there were more guns less people would get shot. -

I'm confident that would have been the case on the shipyard.I Wear Pants;1502460 wrote:ITT: If only there were more guns less people would get shot. -
Pick6some will love this article and some wont. Belly will, though.

gutSince most mass shootings are carried out by white people, clearly the solution is to ban white people from public places.

If only all military personal were stripped of their right to carry weapons, we may actually get to come home from Afghanistan!I Wear Pants;1502460 wrote:ITT: If only there were more guns less people would get shot.
