Dude basically just called out everyone -
Classyposter58Good. IMO Hip Hop in the last couple years has gotten really bad, I went from constantly downloading stuff to eventually listening to only country and classic rock basically. I'll still sometimes put on some CD's from a few years ago but wow there is just little coming out of the hip hop world

Last couple years? LOL! It's been bad for a while now. We have people like Lil Wayne that aren't even attempting to put out decent lyrics. As long as it rhymes, they're cool with it. I used to love Hip-Hop, it's just a joke now though.Classyposter58;1486115 wrote:Good. Scarlet_BuckeyeWhat did he actually say? At work and don't want to click on some hip-hop link that will send me to a webpage full of big booty strippers.

GOONx19More or less just claiming to be the best out right now. Certainly not trying to start shit, especially when he mentioned both the other two guys on the song. But Kendrick is definitely one of the best doing it. Almost every rapper I saw on twitter was fine with the song.

He called out better rappers in 2010 on this song, which is pretty fucking good:

Collard Greens and the Black Hippy U.O.E.N.O Remix were two of my favorite hip-hop songs of the summer, mostly thanks to K-Dot.

reclegend22Schoolboy Q is great. I like Black Hippy a lot.
While the quality of rap isn't anywhere close today to where it was at the height of the '90s, there are still a few talented storytellers out there. None that could do it like Biggie -- he could turn a simple rap into a motion picture -- but not all is lost. Kendrick, Eminem, Cudi, Kanye and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are examples of rappers still carrying the torch. I also really like lesser-known artists such as Charles Hamilton, T11 and Childish Gambino. These guys deserve to be heard.
Rap is still here. It's just harder to cut through all the noise to find it. -
GOONx19
I think most of that is due to the fact the the radio plays the songs that will get them the most listeners, and right now, that's Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Future, Nicki Minaj, Drake, etc... Every once in a while, a good song will make it to the mainstream, but if someone listens to the radio in order to hear rap/hip-hop, they aren't going to find much quality. I blame the consumers more than anything.reclegend22;1486487 wrote:Rap is still here. It's just harder to cut through all the noise to find it. -

It's for that very reason I haven't listened to the radio in about 10 years. I remember when hip-hop stations in Toledo used to play Tupac and Jay-Z. Now the hourly lineup is Drake, Will.I.Am, Drake, Drake, Rick Ross, Drake, Will.I.Am, Drake. Somewhere along the way, pop became associated with hip-hop and changed the way the more mainstream "rappers" produced their music. There is at least hope that this trend is fading, however. Nicki Minaj, for example, who, when actually rapping, is a decent artist who can go just as hard as Lil' Kim once did, recently stated that she is moving away from the pop scene and returning to her rap roots. I look forward to a new female voice. I loved Lil' Kim in Junior Mafia and Minaj has a similar sound. -
gerb131Better watch it with Eminem, dude will flip his shit.
Other than that I'm cool with it. -
reclegend22Kendrick's new rap is cool, but he's not going to shoot any of his competitors in the pelvis. That's ridiculous.
As for who is the best current rapper out there today, Kendrick Lamar is surely not him. I don't think anyone has kicked Eminem off his throne, let alone Kendrick. When it's all said and done, I think Kid Cudi could be that guy. Unfortunately, his stuff is too different for most, which is a shame. -

I'd agree that he is an artist without a set genre, but he is not emo. His roots are in hip-hop. Comparing Kid Cudi to My Chemical Romance is ridiculous. He is a rapper who just so happens to record mellower and -- at times -- more downbeat music than most of his peers. There are many rappers who venture into that territory from time to time.Mohican00;1486527 wrote:he's emo, brah -
