justincredibleI do not believe in force, so no. Churches should not be forced to marry gay couples if they do not want to.

This is a ridiculous argument.Heretic;1486200 wrote:Problem with that little rant is the simple fact that with how life is being extended more and more due to advances in medicine, this planet (more pronounced in some areas than others) is reproducing too much and too quickly. Only so many resources to go around. The more gays, the less over-population there is to deal with.
At least, that's a better solution than a few well-timed genocides to cut down on population. At least for the people who would be erased to make room for the rest. -

If a church follows the bible, why is that ridiculous? Do we not have a freedom of religion in our country? Is there not a supposed separation between church and state?Heretic;1486833 wrote:No more ridiculous than "NO cuz the bible said so!" -

No, what I'm talking about is a bit more off-topic. Going back to Me?'s post where he was more about how "being gay is stupid", as opposed to any actual forcing of churches to marry people. As to the actual topic, I feel gays should be allowed to be married, but no particular place/group should be forced to do so if it goes against their beliefs. Getting a marriage license is pretty easy, I think, so it'd be easy for anyone to get married who wanted to. As far as that goes, I just think the concept that in many states, they're not allowed to get married is stupid.Pick6;1486841 wrote:If a church follows the bible, why is that ridiculous? Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. I'm not religious, but I respect people's beliefs just as I expect others to respect mine. I doubt I'll even get married in a church.Heretic;1486844 wrote:No, what I'm talking about is a bit more off-topic. Good question on that. I'm getting PMs and then realizing it's just people quoting my posts. And apparently I must have some mild sort of OCD because every time I see that notification bar lit up, it sort of bothers me, like things aren't tidy anymore in my little e-world.Pick6;1486847 wrote:Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. O-TrapOh, man. Replied posts are getting tagged and PMs sent.
I am now convinced that this should be abused somehow. 100 people quote the same post to blow up someone's PM box. -

Why in the world would it even be a possibility that you get married in a church if your not religious?Pick6;1486847 wrote:Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. I'm not religious, but I respect people's beliefs just as I expect others to respect mine. I doubt I'll even get married in a church.

Yeah, I've never known a church or pastor that would marry a couple without at least a consultation, if not marriage classes. And I can't imagine many of those that after consultation learned that the couple wasn't religious would agree to marry them. There are plenty of people licensed to perform marriages that a couple doesn't need a church service. -

It's quite common. Most cases it is where one is religious and the other isnt.Con_Alma;1487213 wrote:Why in the world would it even be a possibility that you get married in a church if your not religious? -
Manhattan BuckeyeIt isn't common at all in my experience. I've been to some weddings where people of different denominations were married (and even then, most of those weren't in churches but a religious official presided over the ceremony), but never to one where someone just flat out told the church/pastor "I'm not religious." In a church?

Manhattan BuckeyePost #85.
You said you aren't religious. If you aren't religious you shouldn't ask a church to marry you, unless you lie to them.
"I'm not religious, but I respect people's beliefs just as I expect others to respect mine."
I've never seen a church just simply allow anyone to walk in and expect to get married. Many have by-laws and charters that restrict marriages to members, and if they have more liberal rules even those go to decisions by the membership and/or pastor.
"In a church?" referred to the concept that someone non-religious might want to get married there. If you wish to you have to abide by their rules, not yours. If you aren't religious at all to Con Alma's point (i) you shouldn't want to get married in a church and to this point (ii) you shouldn't expect them to accommodate you. -
Con_AlmaI truly don't understand. Even if the bride subscribes to said religion, it doesn't makes sense.
I equate it to someone not believing in marriage at all but getting married because their girlfriend does believe in marriage.
