McFly1955Anybody else order a Google Chromecast?
http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/devices/chromecast/#netflix
They just were announced and on sale yesterday...$35 streaming HDMI stick for your TV (effectively $11 due to 3 month netflix code, good for new and existing streaming subscribers).
I already have netflix, so for $11 I just had to grab one....I have 2 rokus, a ps3, and an xbox 360 to stream, but this will be a good solution for my bedroom where my original roku is starting to die..
Sold out on amazon already as of last night....selling for $100 on ebay, might sell mine there and reorder since it's not like I really need the thing right now and I can wait a couple weeks..we'll see. -
WebFireI will give you $34.

Heretic$34.01!

bases_loadedHave a ps3, Apple TV, and rocku
Does this provide any advantage?
I hate how show time anytime blocks airplay to the Apple TV -

From what I know, no real advantage over the ps3/roku...I don't know much about apple tv.bases_loaded;1478620 wrote:Have a ps3, Apple TV, and rocku

One thing that will be nice for us is that we put a lot of youtube videos on for our kids (both under 3), so it will be a quick way to do that for my wife...Right now I have a workaround setup on the roku using the 'playon' media server, but it's touchy and the search option sucks, PS3 doesn't have youtube as far as I know, and my 360 is currently in the basement. So, at first it will be an $11 youtube stick for us, but I can see developers potentially doing some cool things with it, especially with how it is so integrated with phones/tablets...we'll see.
Mine is listed as 'shipping now' on amazon, so I'll post some thoughts next week since I should have it by monday/tuesday... -
justincredibleLooks pretty cool, especially for the price. If it supported Amazon Prime video I would probably pick one up for our bedroom.

A super cheap streaming device that plugs into your HDMI port on your TV (and depending on the type of HDMI you have, may or may not need a power cord to the wall)…Cost is $35 shipped on amazon (compare to typically $50-$100+ for other streaming devices).Scarlet_Buckeye;1478666 wrote:What is it?
This is a pretty gimped device at the time, but has potential to become better as more channels are added. You would probably be wise to get something else like a roku/apple tv, etc. if you are using this as your main streaming device.
Basically you plug into your TV, use your laptop/smartphone/tablet to browse to a youtube/Netflix video, hit the button on your device to cast the video to your TV, then the video is on your TV. This will be great to have around, for travel, bedroom, etc… -

Are there any monthly fees/charges? -
McFly1955
Not for the device itself, but depending on the services that you use on the device, yes.Scarlet_Buckeye;1478688 wrote:Thanks, Reps.

Netflix is like $8/month, youtube is free, and I'm sure they will add things like Hulu and Amazon Prime, which all have a subscription cost themselves, but there are no fees directly related to the device.
So, if you already have a subscription to netflix, this is just another way to stream it. -
gutI am tempted, because Netflix from the PS3 kind of, well, sucks. Actually, the PS3 kind of sucks in general as a media (non-gaming) device, at least as far as internet content.
But not sure this is all that great if I have to have my laptop on to push the video to my tv. I'm not quite sure how it works, but I doubt it's as cool as I'd like it to be (i.e. the computer acts basically like a remote and isn't actually streaming) -
sherm03I ordered one through the Play Store today. I figured that would get replenished before Amazon does.
I use an HDMI cable and my tablet right now in my office to watch Netflix. And my bluetooth mouse is spotty at best. So this will be a nice alternative so I don't have to get up and walk to the tablet to start the next episode on my tablet. -
dlazzI bought one for the hell of it

I think you can "share" websites to it, so it may work. -
LJI have smart TV's and a PS3, hope this helps

Agreed! The Netflix app for the PS3 is HORRENDOUS.gut;1478712 wrote:I am tempted, because Netflix from the PS3 kind of, well, sucks. -
McFly1955forgot to post my thoughts when I got it....
I got it in the mail, had it opened and set up in less than 5 minutes and was able to easily stream using my Nexus 4 Android phone, or my touchpad (running Android).
It works flawlessly as long as you have a decent wifi connection, and is well worth it for a quick solution for a bedroom or whatever.
It's obviously limited now with only having a couple apps...If you are in the market for a main streamer I would go with a roku or something like that since it has a lot more options, but this has potential in the long run, or for a travel solution or 2nd or 3rd TV in the house... -
dlazzI killed my order since Amazon was dragging their feet.

I kept mine just because the Netflix code. I have one from best buy also -
dlazzI was just going to play with mine. I have no real need for it. I have a htpc hooked up to my TV, which does everything and anything I want it to

like_thatNow that has been out for awhile, what does everyone think? I have been thinking about getting one.
