When somebodies love is being a wing walker and an accident happens it's not sad. She died doing what she loved.

I wonder how many people who doesn't see humor in a wing walking accident does laugh at the Darwin awards.

Not even close to the same thing. She died performing a stunt she has not doubt done countless times due to a plane malfunction. Not doing something stupid like looking down the barrel of a gun and accidentally pulling the trigger.

Just because someone has done a stunt countless times doesn't make it not stupid.

Alligator "wrestlers" have that whole shtick of sticking their head in an alligators mouth that is wide open. Just because they have done it 50+ times, doesn't make it not stupid.

This obviously is a terrible event as someone died trying to entertain others. But that said, stunt flying is dangerous and I'm sure any pilot that does it is aware that a malfunction can happen and it can end poorly.

With all that said, laughing at this obviously isn't an appropriate response.

There's a difference between crazy and stupid. Those people might be crazy but they are not stupid.

Tell someone to go fuck themselves when deserved, get banned for life. Laugh at someone dying, don't even get a thread ban.

There is a difference between personal attacks/trolling and having a controversial opinion.

Also, I think Like_that inadvertently makes an interesting point.

Is it really that far fetched for human society to laugh at people dying? Our entertainment industry does it all the time whether it be through movies, television or even video games. American society has made death a billion dollar industry. Now obviously not all death depicted is meant to elicit laughter, sometimes it is meant to elicit shock, terror, sadness, etc. But it does target laughter sometimes.

Now in conjunction with that, in general internet message boards tend to have a dehumanizing characteristic in that people will often say or do things that would normally be considered socially unacceptable and offensive. You can see that to varying degrees on just about any message board. Whether that is because of the relative anonymity or the lack of actual social interaction or a combination of both that encourages this is irrelevant.

And between those two proceeding paragraphs I'm not entirely surprised that someone would have this kind of reaction sadly. But beyond that, we've had similar sentiments before such as people wishing death on others because of their opinion. We have people who literally spew hate at each other over their sports affiliations and/or opinion about sports. Some of these hateful interactions even boil over into threats of physical harm.

Anyways, just something I briefly thought of when reading like_that's post. I don't really think this kind of reaction to death is really that far fetched. But as I said earlier, I definitely do not believe it to be appropriate. But it is his opinion and he's entitled to it. Just as we don't ban people for being racists or prejudiced we won't ban said for having a socially unacceptable view towards real human death.

Telling Cats Gone Wild/Skyhook/Said to go fuck themselves when they make retarded trolling posts is not "personally attacking anyone"...it's an opinionated response to someone's obvious troll post(well not obvious since the mods seem to let lotz/CGW/said/etc. make these posts with no penalty). Trolling is just opinions. It's controversial opinions to rile up the popular vote. It's not that hard to see and yet you ban people for trolling when in reality all it is "controversial opinions". No logic at all in what you guys do on this site.

You do point out the crux of the problem that defining the line between trolling and controversial opinion is something we do struggle with. As there is obviously a similarity between the two. And we often do have discussions about posts/posters that fall into that opinion and try to give leeway on the side of it being a controversial opinion. But having people start pissing wars over it doesn't solve the problem, hence no personal attacks. And to say that those posters get away with it is false as some of the people you have referenced have been either thread banned or basement banned for their comments.
