The Office: Series Finale Event

Erin was def not even close to being the funniest. She was the hottest though.reclegend22;1444244 wrote:I think that Erin was one of the funniest things about the show in recent seasons. I know some didn't like her, but I thought she was right on par with Andy, Dwight and a couple others who were pretty funny on occasion.
Did anyone here like Robert California? While the show was clearly reaching, I thought he had moments that worked. But he was nowhere near as good as some of the other guest appearances, notably Will Ferrell. The juggling scene was, IMO, one of the five best moments in the show's entire run. That was great. -
SportsAndLadyI loved Erin. Her awkwardness and stupidity was a classic combination.

I didn't mind her but sometimes it seemed too forced.SportsAndLady;1444252 wrote:I loved Erin. Her awkwardness and stupidity was a classic combination. -

Yea, I always thought they were a great match, and I would've loved to see their kids too.SportsAndLady;1444234 wrote:Why didn't Michael's wife show up? I liked her character lol -
SonofanumpI tried to watch the America show several times, only found it moderately funny. The BBC (that stands for British Broadcasting) version is much better and worth watching.

reclegend22See, like Laley with Steve Carell, I find the British version of Michael Scott to be as amusing as a piece of wood.
-
se-alumI thought it was a great finale, a little slow starting out, but from the moment Michael returned, it was really good.

Count me as someone who thought the show got much better (to the point of being marginally funny) after Carell left.reclegend22;1444400 wrote:See, like Laley with Steve Carell, I find the British version of Michael Scott to be as amusing as a piece of wood.
The "stupid awkward" humor is super tough to do well. Only guy who's funny doing it is Zach Galianakis, and sometimes Will Ferrell. -

Michael Cera has shown glimpses of potential, and the chubby/now skinny kid from 21 Jump Street (can't remember his name for whatever reason) is also spot on with awkward humor.gut;1444418 wrote:Count me as someone who thought the show got much better (to the point of being marginally funny) after Carell left.

I disagree with regard to the cast of The Office, however. I think Erin and Gabe filled those awkward roles really well. -

Gabe had moments, I never found Erin funny at all. And actually, if Toby's character is in this group he does it pretty effectively (maybe because his character is not ALWAYS stupid and awkward).reclegend22;1444425 wrote: I disagree with regard to the cast of The Office, however. To me Dwight not only made the show but frequently had to carry it. The show had some talent, but the "stupid awkard" characters I could do without. Never liked that style - reminds me of 3rd Rock from the Sun. There are definitely people that like, even love, that type of humor. It's painful to watch poorly done, or painful when it's too over the top (which is how I would describe Carrell). -
hangonsloopyI loved the finale. It was very well done IMO. Michael coming back was perfect.

Agreed, especially the way he did.hangonsloopy;1444444 wrote:I loved the finale. It was very well done IMO. Michael coming back was perfect. -

Yea, his "that's what she said" line was a thing of beauty!vball10set;1444447 wrote:Agreed, especially the way he did. -

I look back at what could have been and think about the possibility of Dwight and Jim both having control of the branch. The show could have continued to be excellent but they lost Carrell and thought they needed a name to replace him. The sad part was the existing cast was enough. Not a single added character aside from the short dorky intern added something of value to the show. They could have hired a random person who was supposedly good at their job and the show still would have been good if you kept the focus on the core characters.reclegend22;1444244 wrote:Did anyone here like Robert California? I would have loved to have seen Gabe as a branch manager and just watch the entire office humiliate and destroy him each episode. Deangelo, Jo, Robert, Nellie. All worthless characters. -

While I see what you are saying, I also can appreciate those auxiliary characters for what they were. I thought all of them, save for maybe Jo -- every time I see her I think I am watching Titanic -- brought moments of humor to the show that were memorable, even if their characters largely had little if any substance.swamisez;1444912 wrote:I look back at what could have been and think about the possibility of Dwight and Jim both having control of the branch. Pick6Parks and Rec > The Office. Was never a fan.

That would be Jonah Hill.reclegend22;1444425 wrote:Michael Cera has shown glimpses of potential, and the chubby/now skinny kid from 21 Jump Street (can't remember his name for whatever reason) is also spot on with awkward humor.

This. The first season of Parks and Rec was pretty bad. The Office was the best sitcom on TV for about 5 years.vball10set;1445028 wrote:Now, maybe. Ever? Not even close.
