What's your worst injury?

  • Dr. KnOiTaLL
In the wake of Kevin Ware's recent injury, what is the worst thing you've ever endured? I've never been seriously injured, but I am curious...

Probably blowing out my knee. I tore my Acl Mcl and Meniscus all in one play. Funny thing is it didn't hurt that much it just felt weird like jello below my knee.

I've heard that the rehab is more painful often times. Was that the case in your experience?

Tore my MCL. Tore it again 4 weeks later. Only missed 1 game. Never had surgery.

Have had ac joint and rotator cuff problems. Ongoing but nothing serious.

Shattered by elbow when I was six. No surgery though, but my elbow still bends funny to this day

Achilles Tendon. The surgeon told me that mine was the second worst he'd seen. Full recovery took 11 months.

    ugh... could not imagine.

Why is it everyone's injury is always "...the worst one the surgeon said he's ever seen?" Is that a standard line surgeons use to build up their patient's egos, or are most people just flat out liars?

I've never broken a bone but the day before my senior prom I had a disgusting ankle sprain. Pain killers and zostrix helped me be able to walk the next night with my softball ankle.

Broke my collar bone in 3 places. Surgically repaired, but not the same as before. Tightness and painful at times. Got an $8000.00 cadaver tendon holding it together.

Ouch, I screwed mine up in middle school running. Took a year or so before it was 100%.

Also in middle school, 8th grade I think. Track practice, going around the 3rd turn, somehow feet got tangled, and spun around. I landed right on some concrete, where the long jumpers start.
I broke my right forearm, both bones. Arm was in the shape of a U, but luckily not a puncture.
Several hours of surgery, got 2 titanium plates and 13 bolts, which are still there.
    Pretty cool scars too.
No pain today, just can't fully rotate my right arm like my left. So, pull ups, curls, etc are pretty damn hard.

A hyper extended knee or a broken finger is the worst sports related injury I've ever had. Not bad for playing 3 sports all through school and remaining active. Probably the worst injuries altogether too, because nothing else comes to mind.

I believe I have had a few undiagnosed concussions, though. Too retarded to not have.

I have broken every limb and had plenty of stitches. My wrist break was the worst. Displaced an inch outward and overlapped almost an inch. Getting it reset was worse than breaking it.

The doctor said it was the worst he had ever seen. No he didn't.

Shrapnel to right side of my face and eye.

yep, mine was on a crossbar on my swingset. Thought hanging upside down from it would be a good idea

Grade II Concussion. Happened March of 2011, final symptom went away around July 2012 (16 months). Worst thing I have ever gone through in my life. I do not wish anyone to have to endure Post Concussion Syndrome.

coma. Forgot my name and where I was. About a year of my life is nothing but a blur.

Mark me down for Achilles, also. I was 40 years old and that pretty much ended my athletic activities.

ACLs, left at about age 35, right 45. Neither surgically repaired. When you guys say you 100% recovered, does the injury site bother you later in life, like when you are 60+?

Didn't know when to quit, eh? :p

Either a broken cheekbone and concussion from flag football, or broken teeth from basketball.

For the cheekbone, I spent the night in the hospital and had a black eye for just under two months. Also had extreme sensitivity to light for 6 months. I don't remember anything from the day it happened.

For the teeth, I dove for a ball senior year and a guy from the other team landed on my head. Lost one front tooth and chipped the other. I played the rest of the game and then my dentist let me in after to fix it. He has since told me that he was pretty much just making it up as he went that night and is always surprised I haven't had any problems with them since. Only visible sign is that I look like an idiot in front of a black light.

Tore up my ankle in summer league basketball in 2004 or 05. Doctor said it would have been better off if I had just broken it (actual damage was all the ligaments).

Only took about 2 months to get off crutches and out of the walking boot, but it still swells up and gets a dull throb when I get exercise/move around on it heavily.

Yeah rehab was way worse the the injury. The ACl and MCL don't give me any problems anymore but once or twice a year my knee will swell up about twice the normal side because of my meniscus. It goes away really quickly though it I put a meniscus band on and run on it for about 15-20 minutes. I think the band kinda pushes it all back together like it supposed to be.
