I don't know shit about computers. All I know is I bought a MacBook 5 years ago and it's still going strong. From Kim Kardashian to Farah Abrahams the thing is going strong.

http://www.newegg.com/ has anything you could want. Enter specs, browse, read reviews.

    Or Macbook Air.

    Personally, I'd go Macbook.

I like the ultrabooks really well. Sony, Toshiba, Lenovo and HP are all good. The high-end ultrabooks probably have as much power as you need, if not more. They can be pricey, though. For the best balance of power and battery life, make sure you're getting a 3rd gen Intel Ivy Bridge processor - they don't run nearly as hot as previous generations, either.

Speakers can be dicey. You're not going to get great sound out of many laptops, although the HP with Beats are pretty good.

Dell's customer service is beyond lousy, but I never had a problem with 3 different laptops from them. Not much of a price advantage with Dell any more. Lenovo has a really good line-up and some are very competitively priced with Dell and others.

And as already mentioned there's Newegg. As always, you're overpaying for Apple.

Have you considered a MS Surface? Pretty cool gadget.

Also, "good speakers" and a thin laptop (ultrabook) don't really go together. Go headphones or some solid external speakers.

Correct. Nice computers but of you buy one, you're paying for the name not the machine.

What's your budget? No need to buy a Mac if you only want good quality streaming video. You going to be doing a lot of photo and video editing and production? Then fuck that noise. Don't waste money you don't need to with a Mac.

Got some clueless poor people in here.

You do know a MB Air can be had for a grand?

I've never heard a bad thing about Asus. My friend has this...nice machine.

Why spend a grand when you can get everything you need in a $500 laptop?
  • Automatik
Why buy a Porche when you can drive around in a '97 Cavalier? It's all about preference.

The ultrabooks in the $500 range are nothing to rave about, but for basic stuff...they get the job done.

You do know that's still a few hundred overpriced? Gotta pay for all the marketing and branding...

Lenovo has some awesome options. I have had 2 Lenovo laptops and love them (both still running like a charm). I like them much, much more than the Dells I used to have.

You posted an overpriced machine for comparison. I can get that same processor and memory in a Lenovo for $750. That's why I said the MB Air are still a few hundred overpriced. Stop being such a sucker :)

My macbook is also dying a slow death. I can't decide if I want to replace my phone or comp first though. I have a 4 yr old MB, debating if I want to spend the money to buy another mac (mac lover) or go with a cheaper route. The main argument for the MB at the time was reliance, apple care support, and lack of viruses. Seems the market is starting to catch up in those areas.
