Do you have the "right" to recline your seat on a flight?

  • FatHobbit
Georgemc80 posted on the Spirit airlines thread that he tells people that they can't recline their seats on flights. I've never even considered this. I've been on flights where people reclined into me, so I had to recline my seat into the person behind me just to be comfortable. (to be honest I was probably going to do it anyway)

What say you? Do you have the right to recline your seat? What would you do if someone told you that you couldn't? Have you ever complained because someone in front of you reclined their seat?

If my seat reclines, I'm reclining it.

I'd never complain about the person in front of me, nor would I give a fuck if someone in front of me bitched.

I (generally) don't do it, but I don't have problems with people who do. Exceptions being on flights longer than 4 hours.

The button is on MY seat. If I want to use it, it is my right.

If Georgemc was behind me, I would ignore him completely and recline my damn seat.

Once the plane is in the air, I put my knees 2-3" behind the seat in front of me. That's how far they get to recline.

I looked online and they make a device to restrict how far the seat in front of you can recline.

I might be flying cheap ass airlines, but I swear the flights I've been on the seats only recline at most 2 inches.

So with that in mind. I don't think it really matters.

You have the right to recline as far back as my legs will allow. So not much.

Of course, unless it is during any meal service on longer flights when the stewards/stewardesses tell you to put your seat up. It is assumed that everyone reclines their seats.

    This.

My knees are generally at the seat in front me of. I'm reclining 100% of the time.

Did you pay for the seat? Does your seat recline?

If yes to both, then yes you have the right to recline. /thread

I've only flown on a plane once... can't remember if I did recline my seat or not. I probably did just because I was able to.

Well. When you have my legs. You wouldn't. My knees stop your back from reclining. And if you do get back. You are getting kicked the whole flight.

I would still recline. You dont want a seat against your knees? Pay for an exit row seat or 1st class. I pay for my seat in economy and it reclines.

Planes arent built for people who are tall or fat. If you want to be comfortable in them, pay the extra money.

I'm telling you the physics say you can't. My knees touch the back of your seat. You're not reclining. I'm not a badass knocking heads. I'm that long. For the record I do try to fly business or exit row.

I fly first class .... hope this helps :D mofo

FWIW, I didn't mean to single you out when I started this thread. I was genuinely curious to see what other people thought.

    That's what they all say...

I'm actually curious how someone can prevent a seat from reclining using just their knees.

I'm waiting for the day the airline buys me a new laptop when some jackarse forcefully reclines his seat without warning.

You have the right; but just because you have the right doesn't mean you need to exercise your right.
