Fat gym teacher hits girl in head with ball

I don't understand why people are trying to crucify him for this. Ya, it's dumb shit, but we all did and said some dumb shit in middle school. It's not like he tried to get that video published.Fly4Fun;1432089 wrote:Some reports allege that the kid was on the ground because he was laughing so hard at balls being thrown at the substitute.
Even if that is the case, this teacher is way out of line and has nothing to do with society becoming wussies. This guy is a grown adult in a position of responsibility. If he doesn't know how to handle kids who act up, he shouldn't have been in that position to begin with.
If you're the substitute and kids are throwing "dodge balls" (not basketballs) at you, you send those clowns to the principal's office. You don't launch a BASKETBALL from point blank range at the kids head.
The guy deserves whatever happens to him legally.
His video was funny.
People need to loosen up. -

Im confused by this. The person we are crucifying is not a middle schooler. He was the teacher...?Commander of Awesome;1432093 wrote:I don't understand why people are trying to crucify him for this. Dr Winston O'BoogieI'm not saying the gym teacher was right. I just don't find this a case to be outraged over. The gym teacher may have a case of terminal dumbass. He's a substitute gym teacher for goodness sake. When a dodgeball game under his watch degenerates into target practice against him and the kids are laughing, how is it any surprise that he blows his top. Don't make fun of the big fat kid if you don't want to take the chance that he may beat your ass oneday. If I were the principal, I probably wouldn't have him back to the school. But this sense of outrage is an overreaction in my opinion. These kids may have learned a valuable life lesson from this incident.

So you say a this teacher's reaction is ok because he was being picked on? Brilliant!Dr Winston O'Boogie;1432561 wrote:I'm not saying the gym teacher was right. Holy god your posts on this thread are idiotic.
Your comparisons are just plain wrong and stupid. -
Dr Winston O'BoogieI did not say the gym teacher was right. I just don't find this to be an outrageous incident. The gym teacher is probably not the sharpest tack in the box and perhaps doesn't belong in the school. However if a bunch of kids are going to feign shock because he got pissed when they threw balls at him, I'm not going to feel sorry for them. As I said earlier, this could have been a nice life lesson for them - don't pick on the fat kid if your not prepared for the reprocussions. Instead, the typical reaction of the outraged parents, scared students, etc. Toughen up for God's sake. If I were principal, I'd send the gym teacher packing and then tell the kids "serves you right. Don't stir up trouble if you don't like it coming full circle."

There are other ways to handle and teach a lesson besides a two-handed, over the head basketball to the head.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1432578 wrote:I did not say the gym teacher was right. If launching a basketball at a kids head from point black range is not outrageous, then I don't know what is.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1432578 wrote:I did not say the gym teacher was right. If these kids were picking on another kid, and that was a KIDS reaction, yes, I don't think that's outrageous. But kids (specifically teenagers) have been proven time and time again to have questionable decision making at best, and this has been demonstrated in the field of cognitive sciences (research into the amygdala and pre-frontal cortex).
But a teacher (even a substitute) is supposed to be responsible and have the ability to deal with students who act up.
Any physical reaction from a teacher or substitute teacher towards a student is outrageous... especially when the "adult" is targeting a kids head. -
sherm03
It wasn't a kid. It was an adult. A person who should know better than to do something like that and who be smart enough not to let little kids get under his skin to the point where he throws a basketball off one of their heads. The only "lesson" these kids learned is that their school clearly doesn't screen substitute gym teachers well enough.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1432578 wrote:I did not say the gym teacher was right. Also...fuck that piece of shit. Even if other kids were throwing balls at him, and this kid was sitting on the ground laughing at it...what a fucking ***** for targeting the kid sitting on the ground laughing and not the people throwing the balls.
That guy's a piece of shit. Fuck him. -
Dr Winston O'BoogieI'll put it this way: I don't feel sorry for the gym teacher losing his job and I don't feel sorry for the kid being hit. Both deserved their fates.

You don't feel bad for the kid?! The kid was laughing! The kid that got blasted in the head reportedly wasn't one of the kids throwing the balls at the gym teacher. He was literally sitting there laughing. Had this kid hit the gym teacher in the face with one...I still wouldn't agree with you...but I'd see your point.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1435227 wrote:I'll put it this way: I don't feel sorry for the gym teacher losing his job and I don't feel sorry for the kid being hit. Blasted? Harry Dunne blasted Mary Christmas.....this was not a blast. Uncalled for and inappropriate yes....reprimand worthy, fired, never called again to sub...whatever. But not a blast. -

Dr Winston O'BoogieMy original point was that being outraged over a ball being thrown at a kid for laughing at a teacher seems an overreaction to me. What the teacher did was stupid and wrong - I don't dispute that. I was making the point though that we're not a tough society if this is all it takes to cause us outrage. Of course I also thought the reaction to the Rutgers coach was way overblown. I wouldn't want that guy coaching at my program not because he threw basketballs and called names, but because his win/loss record was terrible.

You're telling me that you would not be outraged if it was your kid that got hit in the head by an adult for doing nothing more than laughing? Maybe we're not a "tough" society. But I would argue that we are a very empathetic society. If it were my kid, I'd be furious. Which is exactly why I think this situation is an outrage.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1435341 wrote:My original point was that being outraged over a ball being thrown at a kid for laughing at a teacher seems an overreaction to me. This has nothing to do with our society not being tough. There is nothing "tough" about a teacher throwing a basketball at point blank range at a kids head. There is nothing "not tough" about thinking that this situation was indeed outrageous.
If the ball was a "ball pit" ball that weighs 1 ounce and is just a flimsy plastic piece of crap, or a nerf ball of somekind, or maybe even a rubber playground ball you have more ground to stand on. But drilling a basketball at a kid's head from point blank range is indeed outrageous conduct by an adult. -
ts1227Yeah, I don't see how holding adults accountable for being complete fuckheads means society is "less tough". It's just sad that it took this many years/generations to actually stop blindly assuming the adult is never wrong or out of line.
