Why Do We Allow North Korea to Exist?

  • Tiernan
Here is a propaganda film produced in N. Korea to show its citizens how typical Americans live.

Why does the rest of the world allow these idiots to take up oxygen the rest of us could be using?
  • SnotBubbles
I think a better question is, why do we get involved in foreign affairs as much as we do an allow countries like North Korea to become hostile towards us.
  • gorocks99
I'm not a foreign policy expert or anything, but as I understand it, we could wipe them off the map if we wanted to, but the toll on civilian life would be pretty high. They have a metric shit ton of artillery pointed a Seoul along their border ready to launch at any moment. Plus, to get to them we'd probably have to massacre a huge chunk of their civilian population (though some would probably choose death over their current circumstances)

Also, China lets them stay around as a buffer state between themselves and the US-allied South Korea (and because a major war on North Korean soil probably means loads of refugees trying to cross their border) so there's that complication as well.

Other than not allowing them to invade South Korea, what have we done to them?
  • Cleveland Buck
Why do we allow them to exist? Who are you, North Korea's god? If you don't want them to exist then grab a rifle and a boat and have fun.

Ding Ding Ding...we have a winner! That was my entire purpose to show how a country can be the severely retarded cousin to all the other countries.

What do you propose we do? I'm not mocking you, but before you ask why we let them go on, at least propose an idea of what we should do.

The video is a big hoax.

I think I read it was done by a British guy that speaks not a lick of Korean, and he did it to get it to go viral on the web.

Many news outlets fell for it.

Basically this. Technologically, they are still 50-60 years behind everyone else (if not more). They pose little threat to America as they are. If America pre-emptively striked them, China would probably be fairly quick to side with N. Korea.

However, if N. Korea blindly starts to attack South Korea, I think China will turn a blind eye to any US/world interference.

Whenever the N. Korea government finally dissolves (I give it another 10-15 years, tops) their citizens are going to be absolutely shell-shocked at how the world actually operates, and appalled at how much BS they've been fed the past 80 years.

I just finished a book called from "Escape from Camp 14"
It's about a man who escaped from one of the prison camps there to China, and eventually made it to America. Apparently very few ever manage to escape and not only live, but are willing to talk about it. But as Dlazz alluded to, most of them would be too shocked of what "normal" really is. The sad truth is, they wouldn't be able to adapt to culture elsewhere in the world. They don't know what money or family is.
Beyond the violence & torture, North Korea damages their citizens psychosocially beyond repair.

On the thread about North Korea's recent missile launch, someone mentioned that they'd probably screw up and blow themselves up sooner or later. I wonder if that's the best case scenario, actually.

I suspect the State Department doesn't mind NK's wild behavior at all - it essentially makes the Chinese look like idiots for supporting them.

The people of South Korea and Kuwait are grateful. That's thanks enough.

Not busting your chops, but your/my "normal" is a lot different than most of the world population. We may be "abnormal" if you think of it that way. Think of the majority population of India, China, Africa and ask them what is normal!!!!

At some point you have to realize that you are only about 1/6,000,000,000th of the world population, and you want to name what is "Normal"

So I claim that the people of North Korea don't know what "normal" is, and in the next sentence say they wouldn't be able to adapt to other world cultures. Yet, you tell me I individualize what normal is.
And the people of India, China, Africa may have different lifestyles, but it's still a lot more closer to America than it is North Korea.
