Man forgotten in solitary confinement at a county jail for 22 months
-
FatHobbitHe was charged with DUI but never sent to trial. They put him in solitary and forgot about him for 22 months. He settled the case for $15 million which is nice, but still how the hell do you arrest someone and then forget they are there???

thavoiceWell I guess he wasnt totally forgotten as he was still fed.
Huh....22 months in solitary = 15.5 million.

Commander of AwesomeThis is one instance of where being a POS pays off. Also how in the hell did this idiot not alert the guards that he's been in Solitary for a long time?

The video says he wrote letters to the drs asking for medical help and to go to the dentist. Nobody responded and he had to pull his own tooth.Commander of Awesome;1402678 wrote:This is one instance of where being a POS pays off. They knew he was there and for how long. He wasn't "forgotten." He was held because of his supposed mental illness.Commander of Awesome;1402678 wrote:This is one instance of where being a POS pays off. Also, in before "if you don't break the law this won't happen to you!" -

He left weighing 133 pounds. Not sure what weight he went in at but I'm guessing he wasn't fed well enough.thavoice;1402677 wrote:Well I guess he wasnt totally forgotten as he was still fed.

Article says he was a well nourished man. And if you look at the before picture, it's pretty obvious he was a little overweight. He's got some double chin action going on. No doubt in my mind he wasn't being fed well enough, if at all. -
Gblocki think he went in at 185

A few months, sure. But I don't know, maybe because I'm getting older but 22 months is a long time to give up. Yeah I guess just think about the time you'd save not having to work and it's a no-brainer.thavoice;1402677 wrote: Huh....22 months in solitary = 15.5 million.

But we aren't talking just gen pop which you could do standing on your head (sans rape). Solitary for 22 months would be really, really rough if you were forgotten about and no yard time, no books, no tv, no visitors.. I don't think I could last a week with just my own thoughts. -

I probably couldn't do more than a month or so in solitary.gut;1402819 wrote:A few months, sure. But I don't know, maybe because I'm getting older but 22 months is a long time to give up. Yeah I guess just think about the time you'd save not having to work and it's a no-brainer.

sleeperNo way I'd take 22 months in solitary confinement for $15 million. You can definitely tell who the poor people are on this forum, gosh a ruddies.

Yeah. I have a good imagination and stuff, but to last 22 months. I have a feeling I'd come out completely insane, thinking the stuff I was making up in my mind to cope was actually reality by the end. And it probably would be disconcerting when the minute I got released, I wandered off into a field saying the Martians needed me to slay dragons before the forces of Hell invaded and I was needed on the front lines.gut;1402819 wrote:A few months, sure. In other words: 22 months in solitary and I'd be Belly II. -
Bigdogg^True!

IliketurtlesYeah I could do a month maybe 2... but 22 months no fucking way.

Laley23Lol. No way could anyone do 2 fucking years in solitary for 15 million if they have a choice. If you sign up for it, but every day have the option of leaving and going back to normal life I bet no one voluntarily could last 22 months...

I guarantee the asses that go in and out of jail about twice a year could. Those guys can kill some serious time. -
OSHThe guy ended up having one nice beard.

Anyone WOULD do it if they had no choice, assuming you didn't kill yourself after going crazy. Probably a reason even a week in solitary is used effectively as a punishment in prison.Ironman92;1403421 wrote:I guarantee the asses that go in and out of jail about twice a year could. But I'm not sure what real solitary is. 24 hours a day in darkness, no books, no human interaction, no tv, no internet...I think almost 100% of people go insane in a matter of months. After just a few days you're trying to stage MMA fights between a spider and cockroach.
Now give me some magazines and ads and I could kill a few months just trying to figure out how to spend my money, no sweat. -

Excellent points. Not sure how it works in this particular county in New Mexico but in the one federal "pound you in the #^$% prison" I've seen it isn't a Shawshank Redemption situation where you are in a hole. Solitary is constantly under suicide watch, as in 24/7 surveillance and at least at this place the inmates had access to one book a day, a special sort of writing utensil and "X" number of pieces of paper (I don't remember the exact amount). There wasn't tv or radio - or at least that is what the warden told us, and at the time I visited the internet was in its infancy stage so it wasn't an issue. But they were separated from the other inmates with extremely limited social interaction.gut;1403637 wrote:Anyone WOULD do it if they had no choice, assuming you didn't kill yourself after going crazy. That being said, looks like the prison really screwed up with this guy. -
