gorocks99The Big Lebowski turns 15 today. Still one of my favorite movies, I think I could darn near quote the whole thing.
Not sure it's my favorite Coen Brothers film - it's toward the top, but they've had so many good ones over the years.
What's your favorite Coen Bros. movie?

Scarlet_BuckeyeThe Big Lebowski is a great movie, but I will never understand the cult following it has. It's not that great.

Fab4RunnerThis is the first thing that comes to mind when I see/hear the Dude Abides:
And now I want Melt. -

I did not see it when it came out, but I heard about how great it was so I watched it. (maybe 5 years ago?) I don't get the love.Scarlet_Buckeye;1401210 wrote:The Big Lebowski is a great movie, but I will never understand the cult following it has. It's not that great. -

LJRaising Arizona is my favorite Coen movie
-
IliketurtlesIt would probably be #2 for me behind Fargo. No Country for Old Men is up there too. Their worst for me was easily Burn After Reading it had some great actors in it but I just thought it was an awful awful movie.
-
dlazzVery very overrated movie. On a good day, it's average.

dlazz
I did this exact same thing.FatHobbit;1401214 wrote:I did not see it when it came out, but I heard about how great it was so I watched it. (maybe 5 years ago?) I don't get the love. -

IMO it is one of the best screenwriting in modern film. It isn't a particularly approachable film. If it is the fist Coen Bros. movie one has seen I can see how it doesn't quite appeal. But aside from the perfect dialogue and pacing, there is an underlying religious context. And it is probably the most accurate portrayal of Los Angeles. -
Dr Winston O'BoogieLebowski is a good film. For me there is Fargo and then everything else. Fargo is the nearest thing to a perfect film there is.
-
Manhattan Buckeye
Agreed. I can see how the subject matter could turn people off (and the accents). But it is nearly a flawless film.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1401284 wrote:Lebowski is a good film. For me there is Fargo and then everything else. Fargo is the nearest thing to a perfect film there is. -

Manhattan BuckeyeApologies, I spent most of my time occupying various administration buildings... smoking a lot of thai stick... breaking into the ROTC... and bowling. To tell you the truth dlazz, I don't remember most of it.

OSHFor me:
- Fargo
- No Country for Old Men
- O Brother, Where Art Thou?
- The Big Lebowski
- True Grit
-
Manhattan Buckeye
No Miller's Crossing or Raising Arizona?OSH;1401328 wrote:For me:- Fargo

There are others but those were the other somewhat popular films. -
SonofanumpDid not like Barton Fink or Ladykillers or Hudsucker. Oh brother was good, maybe #6 for me. Intollerable was not bad, but not a typical Coen film. Don't think I've seen any others.

Maybe top 15 film ever for me.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1401284 wrote:Lebowski is a good film. For me there is Fargo and then everything else. Fargo is the nearest thing to a perfect film there is. -
ZWICK 4 PREZPut it this way.. When I see Jeff Bridges in a movie, I expect him to be The Dude.
