ernest_t_bassWhat cracks me up about this, and the "protection" of our children... This is wrong, but send them home to sex-filled TV? You can't fucking watch ABC (fucking) Family without sexual content being displayed. Can't watch the game without some horror-film trailer or sexual innuendo.

And good lord don't let them watch the Americans....in just 5 episodes, Kerri Russell has given a bj, been raped, and spanked/whipped. Female spies really get the shaft, apparently.ernest_t_bass;1399883 wrote:This is wrong, but send them home to sex-filled TV? Eh, you're the parent. If you deem something inappropriate, don't let the watch it. Furthermore, you can limit their TV time or just don't let them watch it.ernest_t_bass;1399883 wrote:What cracks me up about this, and the "protection" of our children... Well, a kid certainly shouldn't be watching this show. But I think the time it plays should most likely prevent that situation. -

Eh, you're not following. First, "eh" makes you sound pompous and pretentious. You're not getting my point.
Say Shrek is on ABC Family, so my wife and I watch it my my daughters. Pretty Little Liars commercial, before we realize what's going on, sexual references.
Say I'm watching a basketball/football/bowling/baseball game... Whatever... In the middle of the fucking afternoon... Daughters want to sit with daddy and watch game, commercials with sexual reference, horror movie trailers, etc.
You're right, though ... Bad parent

Parenting is just another part of life, you learn as you go.
You have pointed out that you think their commercials are completely inappropriate at times. I'd say you have some options, stop watching the channel or record the show and watch at a later time and just skip over the commercials.
But there are certainly things you can do about the situation beyond what I listed. -

Also LOL at fly4fun trying to pretend he knows anyything about parenting.
Eh, refer to where he mentioned something about "pretentious." That's where you will find your answer.Fly4Fun;1400081 wrote:If you agree with what I posted in the second post why such a hostile response to my first post?

Because what I posted didn't warrant your pretentious response. This isn't a thread about parenting in relation to TV. If you'd like to start a thread about that, please go ahead and do so.Fly4Fun;1400081 wrote:If you agree with what I posted in the second post why such a hostile response to my first post?

I used "eh" as a casual interjection signifying a questioning of what you said. Basically I didn't agree with your line of reasoning about protection of our children. Your post sarcastically indicates the onus is only on the government:
That suggests because the government is trying to protect students in regards to one subject matter and location that they are obligated and must protect children in all areas including viewing material while under the control and supervision of their own parents.ernest_t_bass;1399883 wrote:What cracks me up about this, and the "protection" of our children... I was merely questioning that sentiment and subsequently sharing the idea that parenting should be more involved in actually shaping their children's lives if they feel something is inappropriate for them to view. I wasn't faulting you for letting your children watch ABC family. I was pointing out that if after watching it, you deem the material to be inappropriate, there are steps to be taken to remedy the situation.
But if you want to base an entire hissy fit over an interjection that merely signifies a questioning tone similar "huh" then that's your prerogative.
And as far as me being "off-topic." I was simply responding to a post that was relevant in the thread.
