Transgendered 1st grader banned from school

Born a boy but "identifies" herself(?) as a girl. School is being sued for not allowing her(?) to use the girl's restroom.

I have to ask though - does she still pee standing up?

But what happens down the road when using the lockerroom and showering after gym? Do we make 20 other kids feel uncomfortable in order to make 1 child more comfortable?

    If it's a problem there's always homeschooling.

I don't even have to read the article.

    Only in the SEC..

The school has to cater to the student, especially if it's a medical condition beyond human choice (like this). They need a separate bathroom with a shower for him/her. Or that district will lose tax payers a LOT of money due to upcoming lawsuits.

They are going to do away with homeschooling to make sure they have complete control of the message.

If it has a dick, it uses the boy's room.

A hermaphrodite has a dick and a vagina.

Eventually she'll probably have the dick lopped off...but until then...she's a 7 year old. The school has to be sensitive to her special needs.

I don't know any transgender people nor do I know much about the little research there is to have a valid opinion on what it is or if it is even real.

Gender roles are generally society determined, although some of it is biologically determines from basic necessities such as women caring for children because they have the proper body parts to feed them when they are young. I don't understand how the fact that a boy might like girly things or a girl might like boy things makes them transgender. I'm sure in the DSM it is more in depth than that and something along the lines of they not only like things of the opposite sex but truly feel like they are trapped in the wrong body (I'm not sure how it works).

But as far as how the school handled it, I think they did the absolutely right thing considering everything.
Kathryn Mathis said she got a call "out of the blue" from the school in December saying that Coy could use the boys' bathroom, gender-neutral faculty bathrooms or the nurse's bathroom, but not the girls' facilities.

They made available sex neutral facilities (the faculty bathroom) and the sex appropriate facilities (boys bathroom). If they just made it so he/she could only go to the male bathroom I could understand the cause for concern. But the sex neutral facilities eliminates that issue. I don't think a person with male sex organs should be going to the girls bathroom. But I can see how it could be confusing that a transgender person biologically male and identifying as female could have concerns and issues using the male bathroom.

They offered the use of a unisex bathroom, and another option.

Mommy and daddy want their confused little boy to be able to pee in the girls room.

I wish the worst for these parents. I hope their legal fees bankrupt them.

I don't believe this kid is a hermaphrodite. I took some liberties to have a more concise thread title.

This boy doesn't have both; he has a penis and wants to be treated like a girl.

I feel for her, but as a parent I would not want a child with a penis using the same bathroom as my daughter.

    THIS. CASE CLOSED.

Let me make sure I understand. It has the organs of both genders? So in other words it has a vagina and a brain?

transgender is not the same as being hermaphroditic

Actual hermaphadite? If the kid wants to be a girl, the parents need to get the damn dick cut off.

A boy wanting to be a girl? Sorry, you gotta go pee pee with other boys.

Kid was born a boy and has no female parts. What pisses me off is that the dumbass parents named this kid Coy: a gender neutral name (yes it also pisses me off that Coy isn't a real name anyway). The parents support this shit. Look, kids are always trying to be what they aren't. I'm not saying that every boy dresses up like a girl but we have all acted like something that we are not when we were kids. This is a phase that will be gone in a year. The parents are douchebags though.

Sidenote: Scarlet Buckeye had a phase like this in college.

Ah good. Parents with the emotional and mental development of a surly teenager. May the fleas of 1,000 camels infest both their crotches for how they're handling this.

The title of this topic is deceiving. She/he is transgendered. Not hermaphroditic. Either way, I would say that the offer of the use of a unisex bathroom was adequate for being sensitive to her/his needs.

What if the tables where turn and girl wants to be a boy.... Would the girl shower with guy.

Until she got harassed...then the lawsuit would be all about being a girl and being sexually repressed

Also, twenty bucks says this kid breast fed until he was 4.

Actually an interesting point. How does someone determine that a 7-yr old already "identifies" as transgender? I'm guessing liberal parents, in an effort to prove their liberalness, probably encouraged it. They had already made that determination by at least age 5 - can't imagine most normal parents would even consider it at that point, much less come to that conclusion.

Could be a problem with homeschooling if there is teacher/student sex.
