How I pay $0 for Cell Phone/Month - Collapse of big companies?

  • rydawg5
I use WIFI for ALL cell phone usage.

I was coming up with "budgeting" ideas after I canceled my Sprint service.

I picked up a phone I had and realized that I didn't need to find another service provider for a phone.

I downloaded Google Voice (unlimited free calling), Skype, Facebook, & a text app and haven't looked back.

I can only imagine when WIFI is implemented in most cities, that no one will need Sprint, ATT, or Verizon (at least not like now)

I spend 9 hours of my day at work, I drive for 10 minutes home, and then I'm at home. (So Wifi areas 99% of the time)

If there is a call I HAVE to make, I can pull into a Starbucks, Mcdonalds, or others tap into their WIFI then make a call.

    I'm free!!

Also, probably safer as I don't text & drive or make calls during drives.

Secondly, did you know that you willingly spend $50-100 for INTERNET on your phone in the places you don't have wifi per month?

Voyager Mobile offers unlimited Talk & Text for 19.99 - most people's bills are $75-90/month -thats saying "I willing pay 55-75 bucks per month for the net on my phone.

    Crazy!

Note* My wife's phone is on TING.com - it's $6/month to have a phone activated. $3 (if you use it) for up to 100 minutes or $9 for 500 minutes of voice per month. So in emergencies, or for casual convenience we can always revert to that.

I have a prepaid Tmobile $30/mo plan on my Nexus 4.

    Works for me.

If you pay for postpaid service, you're probably bad at budgeting

We were spending $30 on "postpaid" Sprint SERO but yeah in most cases, people pay crazy prices.

    I pay 80 a month and I don't have shitty Tmobile service.

I pay zero dollars for my iPhone 5 and unlimited cell, text and data usage ... helps to have an employer that pays for it!

I have the same sweet deal. ;)

It's a shrewd move if you can pull it off. For those of us that need our phone for business it's not really an option, though.

I'm using GV or my home VoIP, but I'm still paying a few bucks for 911 service and software (could never get those hacks for free to work).

Wow. I'd be curious how much you have to pay for a life.

That seems pretty extreme to save a couple bucks. Why not just not have a home Air Conditioner. I hear some OC'ers do that.

I'm actually kind of jealous here. When my contract is up ($140/mo for 2 phones) I might try this out for a few months. My wife will probably not go for it but her opinion doesn't matter.

If I had to pay out-of-pocket for my cell I'd use StraightTalk but would opt for a Verizon semi-smart phone.

Locking yourself into an expensive 2-year contract direct with ATT or Verizon just isn't worth it.

    This for me as well.

For poor people who don't have good jobs, wifi is a cool option.
