Homeless People

Mohican00I get hit up about once a week in Columbus - and once, three times in the span of a half hour. If I have some spare change I'll give it to them (and please, spare me your "I need change for the bus story" - go buy crack, I don't care).
But these assholes gotta realize this is 2013, a lot of people don't carry cash anymore. One guy even had the gall to ask me how I paid for a bottle of water at a gas station when I told him I didn't have any spare change for him earlier.

friendfromlowryWhen I'm getting off the highway, there's a couple different spots that guys stand on with boards saying something about being homeless vets, looking for work, hungry kids, etc. What's odd to me is that in the two years I've been driving by the spot, the same guys is frequently there. I can't believe that in two years, he hasn't found anything better than sitting on the road asking people for their money.

Fly4FunI'm "heartless" as I don't give money to people begging for it. I just don't. I am extremely skeptical about what they plan to do with it and/or their true financial situation.

They're begging for change on the sidewalk. What difference does it make to you if they spend the 15 cents you just gave them on McDonalds or booze? Their life is pretty shitty regardless.Fly4Fun;1392463 wrote:I'm "heartless" as I don't give money to people begging for it. I just don't. I can imagine F4F now, handing over a nickel to a bum and following him. Then when the bum spends it on something he doesn't approve.....you get the rest. -

Because there is a strong chance that if they are dependent on drugs and/or alcohol that is the reason they are on the street. Enabling an addiction doesn't help them and only helps them to continue on their shitty path.Commander of Awesome;1392484 wrote:They're begging for change on the sidewalk. Glory DaysI dont give to homeless, directly. The other day we took two loads of clothes to the local Goodwill after hours. There was a homeless dude hanging around out back we noticed. When we came back 30 minutes later, all the clothes we dropped off, plus a tv someone else had left was gone. The guy still had the balls to come around the corner while we were unloading the second time and ask us what we had and money for food.

Haha. He must have been there for a long time because I remembered walking by him tons of times.BigAppleBuckeye;1392422 wrote:Damn that sucks! I always enjoyed his classic "I don't lie ... I don't steal ... just need some cash for an extra value meal. Help is on the Way!" -

TimberHad a great experience crossing the street to the Q... Guy had a classic line.
"I need a dolla thirty fi, fo a colt forty-fi."
My buddy gave him a 10 spot for the humor... -

Ironman92Don't really run into them here. In Chillicothe a few are placed near the busy intersections....but these folks have been caught buying big stuff in Chillicothe and Portsmouth.
While leaving Reds game I always have my son give 1 of them a $1.
The one Indians game I've been to one of these homeless guys was following us for about a block and up to the entrance asking/telling us to buy him a cheeseburger. He was very overbearing and a bit scary.....no burger for that dude. -
Trueblue23I see them all the time here in Indianapolis. The best one is a chick with one leg who stands off the ramp at Michigan Road off of 465N. She's always rocking a camo shirt and some weird bandana. I call her LT Dan.

Midstate01Theres a homeless lady here who sits just outside the navy gate. Shes waiting for her husband to come home. But he was killed in 1968. She actually has family here and they I guess try to get her to come home but she basically went crazy when they told her he was killed.

I did have this once....some hippee type girl who had been to one of those weekend music fests and you could tell she hadn't showered in a few days but she was barefoot and only wearing a sun dress driving a 15 year old junky jeep commander. I has $13 bucks in my pocket and gave her that much gas....I thought she was going to cry and hug me (cleaned up would've definately let her).....but I wished her well. She was a wreck but I felt good after doing that.....did not feel good after doing her.
