Cincinnati can't find a black mayor candidate

  • WebFire
People wonder why racism never dies. Not hard to figure out with stories like this. At least a couple of them seem to get it.
The race to succeed Cincinnati's first directly elected black mayor so far has no black candidates.

With Mark Mallory not allowed to seek re-election to a third, four-year term because of term limits, a city with a majority-minority population currently appears likely to elect a white mayor in November.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports ( http://cin.ci/XDKzLf ) that some political observers find it concerning that no black contenders have stepped forward.
Xavier University political scientist Gene Beaupre is "amazed and disappointed" that no black candidate is running.
"You are the city's leader. You are its spokesman. You are its representative," Beaupre said.
But some black political veterans say it's not a big worry. They just want to have a mayor who will represent the diverse city well and responsively.
"It's all about the candidate, regardless of their color," said Dwight Tillery, a black community leader
Councilman Wendell Young, who is black, said he'd vote for the best mayoral candidate, "even if he or she was polka-dotted."

It still baffles me how people fail to realize the United States isn't 50% white people and 50% black people.

...They obviously haven't looked hard enough, I've been to Cincy many times & saw plenty of black people! I even saw a black guy downtown with a sign that said he'd work for food, so look at the money the city would save by making him mayor!

Next headline should read: "Cincinnati can't find a black man with a job."

Is it any coincidence that the most ran down city in America, Detroit, is also the most liberal. These cities with absolutely zero balance just destroy themselves. I think the black race is the most angering in this country, they just refuse to improve themselves unlike all other minority groups

I don't give a shit what color the next mayor is...as long as that piece of shit Mallory is gone. That dude is absolutely worthless, and he can't throw a baseball.

Peace out, Mallory. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

    EDIT:
Also, after reading the article and not just the quoted portions of it in the first post, this whole thread is somewhat misleading. The point the author is making is that Cincinnati elected a majority black city council, and the city manager, police chief, and other significant positions are occupied by black men and women...yet none of them are stepping up to run for mayor.

Cincinnati is 50% white and 45% black (according to the posted article).

But the only reason it's a point is because they are all black.

Black people are just as racist as white people. Who cares what color the mayor's skin is.

Didnt ~98% of black people vote for Obama this election?

Ridiculous sweeping generalization about "the black race". Wow. There are also thriving cities, states and countries that are at least as liberal as detroit or more so.

I'm not denying that at all. I'm just interpreting the point of the article as questioning why there are so many black politicians in high ranking positions, yet none of them are even attempting to run for mayor.

I think his post was less about color, but more about Liberal. Which in many cities, it's hard to distiguish the difference. As a previous poster stated, some 98% of blacks voted democrat the past two elections. Facts don't lie.

If 98% of whites voted one way, I believe that there would be such an outcry, that it could be heard on Mars.
