Question to all the guys that know the law

  • mcburg93
Is it legal to have a camera pointed at someones house/property with out their permission?
  • sleeper
Yes. As long as they aren't recording sound.
  • gorocks99
I'm sure it various by location, and IANAL, but as far as the news is concerned, anything that can be captured from a public area (street, sidewalk) is fair game

Yes. Private investigators stalked my grandparents' house for years trying to get him on Worker's Disability fraud. My grandparents knew they were right there but couldnt do a thing about it.

I guess I need to further explain. My neighbor is pointing their camera at my house from their house. I guess that is the question. Is that legal.
  • Fab1b
Do you know why the camera is pointed your way?

  • gorocks99
Without any add'l info, yes, it's legal AFAIK
  • GoChiefs
    You haven't asked why?

Thanks. I get along with them quite well at least I did until I saw the camera. I just was wondering if there was anything illegal about it. Just seems weird to me that a camera is pointed at my house. I guess I will just ask them about it tomorrow.

They are recording you and your wife banging and putting it on the internet.
  • Pick6
Also, mcburg, you ever going to post the police brutality video?
  • ts1227
I know Ohio is a one party consent state for audio recording, I'd think video would be the same.

    If that's true, it's legal.

I just noticed it tonight cause of the red light on it. He works second or I would have already knocked on his door. Was hoping to see him pull in to his drive tonight and have a talk with him.

Lol If that is the case then he is a better person than me.

I have to get back with the guy from the video and make sure it is ok and if he says all is good will post it.

Thanks. Was more curious before I reacted in a bad way about the situation.

It may be legal but I'd be pissed regardless of the reason!

Point one right back at him.

There is a driveway between the two about 30 yards. It was in a tree next to his driveway pointing right at my house. I fell a sleep before he got home last night was on my way down to talk to him when I got on here. So will go talk to them now
  • mcburg93
Just talked to him and he said he thought it would help with security. I told him it would have been nice to talked to me about it first. It is no longer there.
  • Belly35
Maybe protecting your home, as a friendly neighbor. I you ask and he gives you a bad reason ... point a laser into the camera lens that will end that problem.
  • ytownfootball
    You're paranoid, stop smoking weed.
  • WebFire
Why is he concerned about your security? Shouldn't it be pointed at his house?
  • Tiernan
He just moved it to another location...think mcburg think.
