Ironman92Just weird that both schools cancel but announce the varsity basketball game will go on just a couple hours later after the closing announcement. Wondering if this was common throughout the state.

Wouldn't the game be more like 12 hours later if school starts at 7 or 8?Ironman92;1379469 wrote:Just weird that both schools cancel but announce the varsity basketball game will go on just a couple hours later after the closing announcement. Wondering if this was common throughout the state. -
wildcats20Happened a few times when I was in school.
As far as I know, there isn't a rule on it or anything. Pretty sure it's up to both school's AD's and principals. -

The districts I attended, had kids in, and currently live in all had a rule that if school was cancelled, sports were cancelled.Ironman92;1379469 wrote:Just weird that both schools cancel but announce the varsity basketball game will go on just a couple hours later after the closing announcement. I've seen this rule for Jr. High sports, but never varsity.queencitybuckeye;1379525 wrote:The districts I attended, had kids in, and currently live in all had a rule that if school was cancelled, sports were cancelled. -
FlashSchool probably was cancelled due to wind chill factor. Fear of any little walkers becoming popsicles. The decision to play a sporting event or have a play where people make their own decision to come or not shouldn't be associated. Now if it was cancelled due to snow and it wasn't any better for the event I'm sure they would have cancelled.

My elementary school has 446 students and zero walk to school. -
sportchamppsThis happens everyday for athletes in Stubenville
-
ts1227It's fairly common, as often times they catch up on the roads by mid to late afternoon. But if it's horrible, they cancel it all
-
FlashYour schools out in the counrty and no one walks? Because if they could walk, whether they do or not they will cancel. Call and ask why? I'm almost positive it will be wind chill factor.

redstreak oneRoads her are evaluated by our Superintendent and bus coordinator starting around 4 am. They travel main and back roads then make a decision, to cancel, 2 hour delay or stay on schedule. Same goes for athletics, if a bus leaves at 4 pm, then I or others will travel some main and back roads, make phone calls to see how the roads are at that time of day then make the decision to cancel or play. What is so hard to figure out about that ironman? From 5 am until 2 pm, a lot can happen to cleaning the roads.

Interesting. I would have thought if no school for either the game is cancelled.Ironman92;1379469 wrote:Just weird that both schools cancel but announce the varsity basketball game will go on just a couple hours later after the closing announcement. Wondering if this was common throughout the state.
