Subway

So, people still spend their money at this place? Someone got me a giftcard to Subway recently and I went for lunch today. Awful. Just awful.

Must be the store you went to, 'cause the one I frequent is excellent.

Is it the only sub place in the area?

    BMT.

Ingredients were fresh and all, but compared to every other sub place I frequent it was complete shit.

meh...for 5 bucks for a almost footlong its hard to really complain. you can get a lot of toppings for the price to make it taste ok...compared w almost 10 dollars or more for my personal favorite jersey mikes you get about what you pay for. if it was more than 5 tho i could see your point

Think he got the new 11" sub.

I still go there and enjoy it. Think it is a decent meal for the price, however they have been raising them oh so steadily. OTher places are better but always cost more.

No, there's a Jimmy John's down the street. It's not my favorite, but it sure isn't shit.

I was there around a day or two before Christmas and got a 6-in flatbreak steak and cheese. It was...uh, tolerable, I guess. I usually don't go to that place or anything resembling fast food, but I was hung over and in need of something.

My meal was $7.11 and that was for a 6" combo. Not cheap.

I was eating Subway quite a bit during the summer and into fall. Couple days a week. Not the worst thing I've ever eaten and for the price, I won't complain.

Subway sucks. It's not healthy even though they market it as such.

I never get the combos. I stopped drinking pop and the little bag of chips isn't worth it. 12" footlongs for $5-6.

I enjoy literally every sub chain over Subway. I live a block from one, and havent eaten there since I've moved into my current house 7 months ago.

It's as healthy or unhealthy as you want it to be, not unlike most restaurants.

I don't mind Subway, it's not gourmet, but good enough for lunch or dinner a couple times a month.

That's what happens when they advertise as being so cheap. And they spend all their money on paying athletes that no one cares about to say "FIVE!" on the commercials.

Subway used to be great..ever since their 5 dollar footlong slogan, it's gone to shit.

The Subway experience depends entirely on which location you visit. They range from exeplery to disgusting. A good, clean subway provides a good meal in my book.

Here is a test on how you should regard a particular location. Ask them to show you the bin where the chicke breasts are stored. They are supposed to be out of the freezer and individually wrapped with paper. They are then thawed in either the microwave of the toaster depending upon the customer's wishes. If they are sitting in there dry, that is a good location. If, however, they are soaking in a bin of hot water, do not even bother ordering. You are in a disgusting Subway and should leave immediately.

I haven't noticed a decline in Subway (though I dont eat it all that often. Couple times a yr). Seems to me to be the same as it ever was, but better options out in the market now. Back in day it was Subway or Fastfood with very little middle ground. Now there are all kinds of different options in the market (Chipotle being an example) which by comparison makes Subway look worse.

One of my biggest complains is it's 95% bread and toppings, 5% meat.

That's a good point. Compared to McFuckingDonald's, Subway is filet-mignon-style gourmet. Compared to a lot of those newer "not fast food" burger/sub/mexican places like Chipotle, J Gumbos, 5 Guys, etc., it's pretty pedestrian. Kind of a "create in-and-out restaurant where customers can see their food being made/watch others vastly improve on your formula" sort of thing.

This is a good way of putting it. Even in just the sub shop market I'm going to Potbelly, Jersey Mike's, Jimmy John's, Penn Station, Firehouse, etc before Subway if I have to spend my own money.

Our locally owned Subway started delivering to businesses for lunch last summer and it is literally $5 for EVERY regular footlong. The only ones that arent are like the big philly or whatnot.
It is a total $2 delivery charge so it is cheaper to stay in and order if ya get a few of them then it is going there!

I guess that is true. Living in a bigger metro city, there are plenty of options for me (also along with traveling I experience numerous gourmet places all over the country), which in return makes Subway seem far less desirable. (/mb)
