Two hour delays for freezing temperatures.

Then you're a Millennial. Gen X goes up until the late 70s, maybe 1980, while Millennial goes from 1980 to 2000ish. So really it's the Gen Z'ers ... whatever the hell you want to call them ... that are the fuck ups. Maybe late Millennials too, kids born in the mid- to late-90s.sleeper;1373723 wrote:80's baby. -

We had our AC go out once, and the Jr. High was in an aluminum sided addition to the main school. It got to about 100 in the building and they let us go.Pick6;1373669 wrote:Never heard of kids being let out early in Ohio for it being too hot.
Funny thing about today, the roads were actually snow covered this morning, but there were no delays. Local schools had delays the last two days for the cold temps. Snow covered roads are more dangerous than cold temps. -

No one cares about your made up demographics. I choose not to be considered a millennial and I refuse to be lumped in with a group of derelicts. lol ok. Just pointing out that when you're lumped into a group for marketing or targeting purposes, it's going to be Millennials. Which is really all these tags are good for anyhow.sleeper;1373733 wrote:No one cares about your made up demographics. I suppose. Guess I'm just harping on the topic b/c I'm working with two clients who are all about Millennials and their likes/dislikes right now. The decision makers like the easy to digest labels and segments.sleeper;1373740 wrote:Ah, well you know the saying: "Those that can't do; go into marketing" -

We did. At fairfield unions old high school, it it got into the 90's, with no A/C, it was nasty upstairs. When it was in the 80's teachers would take their classes outside to try to find shade. I remember having class in the dugout of the hs baseball diamond to get out of the school. So if it got too hot, they let us out of school early. I never minded. -

Me either. Our school didn't have air and I remember when it was real hot the teacher would always have a fan pointed right at them. Fuck the kids. lolPick6;1373669 wrote:Never heard of kids being let out early in Ohio for it being too hot. -
said_aouitaIn today's world where the weather and forecast is only a few clicks away they have delays for cold.
Thirty years ago when we only had three tv channels for the weather the superintendent didn't cancel for cold. -

Ironman92My school has dismissed 2 hours early 1 time due to extreme heat (calling for 103 heat index)....not because of the school but 80% of our kids ride the bus and our district is 43 miles wide and some of our kids get on the bus at 2:25 and don't get home until after 4:00. No air on the buses of course......that was the only day that week I didn't hold XC practice.
As for me....I walked to school in kindergarten. Lol It was only 3 blocks but it just seems impossible that a kindergartener could ever walk to school now. Hell, a 1/3 of my second graders can't tie their shoes....they'd never get there. -

Azubuike24It's a joke. I submerge myself in 40 degree ice water for 30-45 minutes at least once a week. Just another example of no accountability and wussifying of our species.

Ironman92I spoke with the Superintendent of Jackson a couple days ago and he was surprised but said he had zero calls/complaints about not having a delay Tues morning. He said the windchill was -2 at 6:00 am and -4 at 8:00 am.....high school kids bitched all over twitter of course.

I'm guessing you don't do that before being with a lady. -

Where do you live? The 40 mile commute is likely by your choice. I am sure you have a bus to put them on it just does not take them to the school you choose for your children's education.Con_Alma;1373576 wrote:We live 40 miles form my kids school. I wish I had a bus to put them on. -

Ha, I definitely don't plan it that way, no. However, it's pretty amazing that after you become cold adapted, the body's physiological response is far milder than you would expect. I've been doing it for about 2 years though and at first it was awful and took forever to restore body temperature and functions. One of the biggest issues I had at first was generally before getting in, I'll drink 32 ounces of ice cold water. It really warms the inside and the shock to the exterior skin isn't nearly as bad. That's not a good thing right after getting out of the soak and it's time to piss. Lets just say there were times urination response wasn't always conscious.hasbeen;1374161 wrote:I'm guessing you don't do that before being with a lady. -
