TBDP gives you a bunch of options if I remember correctly (kind of like 5-8). It comes down to personal preference but for me Matt's is the best.

    Yah that sounds right Gorocks.

Bar 145 in Toledo. Create your own burgers with over 75 toppings and I believe 30 different sauces.

Only been to 5 guys twice and wouldnt say they were terrible. I thought they were pretty good.
5 Guys is respectable, but doesn't really fit with the thread as I gather it, as it's talking more about local places with good burgers and not chains that just happen to be local.

Where I live, there might be a decent place, as I have gotten a good burger from a local restaurant before. But I usually just cook my own at home. Cheaper and little/no diminishment of quality.

Local place called CTown wings has excellent burgers as well. 1/2 lb or maybe bigger...over a wood fire grill. Just had their bleu cheese and wing sauce one last night..

In the DC area, there are a ton:
    Two of my favorites:
Quarry House Dive bar in Silver Spring, MD
Great 1/3 and 1/3 burgers and awesome tots.
Plus, a great beer and scotch selection

And Tonic near George Washington Campus.
Same, great tots, but they have a burger with an egg on it, that is awesome.

Locally, we have a place called Carl's Townhouse that has really good burger, and the Cozy Inn has the Cozy burger that is good.

That sucks. Really wanted to check out Matt's but got talked into TBDP instead. Really liked MPLS though, might be worth a return trip to check it out.

The Pub in Athens has a good Burger

I remember when Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers opened up across from Wright State. All their beer was on ice (don't know if they still do that) and the burgers were not bad.

Now it seems theirs a chain of CBaC's around Dayton area.

DC hasn't really struck me as a burger city, but I might have to check these out sometime.

One of the best burgers I had was at a gastro pub in Santa Monica. It is called the library ale house. They don't let you modify their burgers.

Yeah, one of the nation's fittest cities, does have some good ones, actually some great ones.
During my years at Maryland, my classmates and I would have a burgers and beer night every month and try different places in the DC area. There are a host of solid places.
It is the birthplace of Five Guys after all.

    Four others:
The famous Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington, VA
BGR (The Burger Joint), in Dupont Circle and other places around the city.
Elevation Burger, Fall Church and Arlington, VA.
Good Stuff Eatery: On Penn Ave, SE between 3rd and 4th: Former Top Chef contestant place's.

    Around here:
    Perrysburgers - Perrysburg, OH
    Bar 145 - Toledo, OH
Nick and Jimmys - Toledo, OH

    Not around here:
Spikes Keg 'O' Nails - Grayling, MI
    Bubs Burgers - Carmel, IN
    Bears - Bloomington, IN
    Kilroys - Bloomington, IN

Spikes is by far the best burger Ive had. Stop in almost everytime Im up in Grayling at my cottage. http://www.spikes-grayling.com/ Kelso on That 70's Show actually wore a shirt from Spikes. Bonnie Turner who created the show is from Toledo and vacationed up in Grayling once and went to Spikes. Love it so much she had a shirt worn in the show (as I said, by Kelso).

Very weak draft beer selection. You'd think that they would have more than one Bells and some Founders.

Ctown does have good burgers. Still waiting to see someone do the challenge.

Had my first "Thurman Burger" yesterday. It was pretty damn good. Not sure I've ever had a better burger.

I still feel like shit today because of it, but it was definitely delicious and lived up to the hype.

Loooove Nick and Jimmy's burgers. By far my favorite, but I am only in Toledo once or twice a year these days.

    bar 185
    Rustic Skillet
    Mohawak

if you are ever out in the arena district late night the hungry monkey food truck has a great selection of burgers and cheesteaks

Lol this. I know a bar in DC that has about 30 beers on tap, 25 of which no one outside of the special microbrew club has heard of.

    BJ's brewhouse wasn't bad either.
