Jackson School Board Meeting

  • Ironman92
Least exciting topic thread ever I know.

Quick story.....Jackson has a picture of Jesus hung in a stairway that has been there since 1947. It was given to the school by a student lead christian group that was formed right after WW2.

Picture was taken....sent to most powerful group getting this stuff out of the schools and sent threatening letter to Superintendent. Super will not take it down...news stations all over the place.

.....I take my son up to shoot-a-round at our open to the public fieldhouse and there was nowhere to park. There are an estimated 800 people at the meeting....I'd guess they average 25 people.

My thoughts....don't like, don't look. I was in that school as a 7th-12th grader and can't say I ever noticed it.

I guess around here others have a much stronger opinion.

The group that's demanding it be removed is in wisconsin. Seriously doubt any of them could find Jackson Ohio on the map. They need to stfu and mind their own business.

Pretty much what our Superintendent said.

Are you kidding me? How can someone from another deal with a local school district?

Plus it's fairly easy to hide bodies in Vinton County.

Lol....I can't find it but Bill O'Reilly has major issues with this group and he says he will pay our legal fees if need be to shut this group up.
  • Ironman92
Also haha....my aunt was interviewed at her business today by the Columbus News and she got nervous and said the mass majority of people want it to stay up.

    *vast

That's terrible news. Next you'll tell me the cruising block is no more and the Colonial is closed.

I imagine you'd feel differently if it were an atheist, Muslim, Satanist, etc symbol being hung up.

Not that I really give a shit, it's a picture. Now if the school treated it as anything more than a picture or required students to be more respectful of it than other pictures, or to pray, etc, etc then I'd have an issue with it. But a picture, while technically I don't think it should be there it's fairly innocuous.

It absolutely would not. First off neither I nor my kid would know what the hell the picture meant. Secondly, a picture is not going to sway my child one way or the other, in fact the "don't like, don't look" was the direct quote from my 9 year old.

What difference does it make if It was there since 1947? Is there a grandfather clause for propaganda and indoctrination material in public schools?

If not, what would be different if it were put there in 1979 or 2012?

The school should donate to a local christian church and be done with it. They will not win.

Oh look, Belly is injecting anti-Obama talk into a thread. Again. Good job Ccrunner. Reported for being off-topic.

As for the picture, those people need to fuck off. I'm not religious either and I think they're out of line.

No different than the Toledo school painting pictures of Obama. :D

If my children attended there I wouldn't care if the picture stayed up or if it was forced to be taken down.

I would care if the "normalcy" of the process of educating my children were inturupted by the decision or refusal of having the picture visible.

    Of course you would.

This thread would be better if the OP just said, "So what's everyone feel about this month's board meeting?"

Very true, both our Lord and Savior. Or, one of them is the Antichrist.

I'd feel different about it if the administration made the kids pray to it or something. It's a gift, it sounds like the school just treats it as a gift or memorabilia, so leave it alone.

While expressing my disgust at those who go out of their way to actively seek out offense, is this really a hill worth dying for?
