Quick trip to Hocking Hills

  I'm taking the wife and my daughter family husband, 13 teen year old daughter and 6 year old boy...to Hocking Hills this Saturday.
  Unplanned adventure . one day trip
  
  Suggestion on what to do? Never been there
  
  what caves to visit, trails, eating place (family affordable), other things to do

  Go to old mans cave first. Then you can venture into the other caves as well. Can't remember their names. It's winter so I'm guessing they don't do a zip line.

  drive slow and dress warm. upper & lower falls at old man's cave. footing will be slippery if there is snow. click the link above, it covers everything.

  Not really a lot of places "in" Hocking Hills to eat. It's pretty secluded.
  
  The Inn at Cedar Falls has food
  
  And then aside from that you have places in Logan which is on the outskirts of Hocking Hills. There is Bob Evans, Millstone BBQ, a Mexican restaurant, Arby's, McDonalds, a place called the Olde Dutch Restaurant and then some other fast food further inside town.
  
  The Mexican place and Millstone are good and both are real close to the road that leads to Old Man's Cave.
  
  If you feel like driving, Nelsonville is 15 mins away from Logan and has the Rocky Boots Outlet Store. They have pretty good food there and then you can do some shopping. Hocking Hills is great because it is secluded, but it is sometimes nice to take a breather from that. You probably won't have cell service out there

  Rock House is a must. If you are taking 33 stop by Alley Park, pair of bald eagles nesting at the park, its pretty cool. Take your lunch and beverages no where around the caves is worth a shit. Also a dry pair of shoes and socks must be on order. IMO no other place is as pretty in the snow and ice as the Hocking Hills.

  Gerb is right, the winter is my favorite time to hike the caves. I make sure to go a couple times each year when I go down home.
  
  And Pizza Crossing. You won't be disappointed. You can thank me later. Best place to eat in Logan.

  How can you forget about Pizza Crossing.
  
  I've been to Logan about 10 times in the past 3 years....I've went to Pizza Crossing every time. Get the garlic bread sticks with cheese....just do it.

  If you have time visit Nelsonville and the Rocky Boot Factory about 15 mins away or drive another 10 mins and visit Ohio University and get dinner in Athens. Athens is also really beautiful this time of year.

  Ash Cave is the coolest cave to see...Old Man's cave has the best trails...Cedar Falls has the best workout (you'll be exhausted)

  They actually nest in the field right across from the park, the big open area where overflow parking is available. Off to the right you should be able to spot them pretty easily. The other pair nests back by the ponds as it clears into the meadow. They are quite a sight to see. Huge, beautiful birds.

  What a perfect day and a wonderful adventure to Hocking Hill. Great weather for hiking
  I wll be goning back this summer and next winter also (with ever one wearing grisons)
  We just had boots on the the trails where icy in some areas, the wife took a pretty good fall and hurt her hip, she was ok but is very stiff and sore today.
  
  Ask cave, old man, stone house, rocky boot outlet ( spent a few buck there 1/2 off).
  
  To end the day Pizza crossing. Again the OC suggestion was perfect...

  Found the two across the road. They're huge!!! Very very cool. We tried to get closer and they took off. So we didn't get any good pics but got to see then fly so that was cool! Thanks for the heads up!

  Cool glad you saw them. They are fun to check out. We probably got about 30 yards away before they both took off.

  Yes, its eternally damp all year round.
  Funny story. During last ice storm I think 2008 we went to Hocking Hills the upper falls to be exact. Some guy was there taking pictures with these 3 professional cameras. He slips busts his ass and his cameras. He was fine but his equipment was in 100 pieces. I saw him in the parking lot later, I asked him how much he lost on this excursion. He said 15,000 dollars. Just bought a new Nikon for like 6500 with tri pod. He was not happy, he drove away quickly in his Jetta.
