Ironman92....or from that other place
What are some of the seemingly endless arguments on these sites?
I'll start with an oldie, but not really a goody Who is the better college player/Who will have the better NBA career Adam Morrison vs JJ Redick -
reclegend22The Redick/Morrison argument is the all-time argument on the college hoops forum. That debate stretched on for the entire season, all six months of it. Almost every single day.
It reached a crescendo when I created a thread at the half of Gonzaga's game against Loyola Marymount that year that was titled something like "Morrison 7 points at the half," in which Morrison then responded with 37 in the second. Lol. A low point for me on the Huddle. The thread blew up in about six minutes as Morrison began hitting three after three.
In the end, though, Redick won the Wooden, Rupp and Naismith and then proceeded to become a very good NBA player. -

I think you're confusing "adequate role player" with "very good player".reclegend22;1344974 wrote:very good NBA player.

This all around. -
Ironman9214/5 is a pretty good role player
He's the 2nd or 3rd best player for a 10-13 team. To me he's a well above an adequate role player but also below a very good NBA player......regardless, he's been a lot better than a less than adequate role player Morrison. -

Morrison isnt even an adequate role player.Ironman92;1345110 wrote:14/5 is a pretty good role player

I would agree with all of this. Also, Redick has become a fairly decent defensive player throughout the years -- not really good, but adequate -- demonstrating gradual improvement in other areas other than just shooting. His per 36 minute stats have actually been rather good, at 14.9 per for his career, including 18 in 2008 and 16 this year. I think Redick's ability was somewhat overshadowed when Stan Van Gundy was the head coach.Ironman92;1345110 wrote:14/5 is a pretty good role player

As for Morrison, though, he isn't even a less than adequate role player. He hasn't played in the NBA regularly since 2010, and after playing some summer league ball with the Clips this year, he was waved by Portland in September. The majority of his last two years has been spent in Belgrade. Morrison just didn't cut it in the NBA. His awkward playing style, while great in college, didn't translate, for whatever reason. -
James GatzYou know college basketball is shit when two awkward white kids were competing for "best player" honors.
-
reclegend22J.J. Redick was far from an awkward college basketball player. He scored nearly 2,800 career points (the most in ACC history at the time) and finished with an NCAA record 457 three-pointers. He was as good of a scorer and shooter as the game has seen at that level, black or white, in the last 15 years.
Do you consider Christian Laettner an awkward white kid when evaluating his exploits at Duke? -
James GatzReddick wore an undershirt because he had terrible bacne. Awkward. White. Kid.
-
reclegend22Who cares. J.J.'s game, what actually matters, was not awkward. He was an outstanding college player. Better than any black player that year, if that's how you want to determine hoops greatness.
I might add that Larry Bird was one of the goofiest looking players in NBA history with that porn star mustache and awful haircut -- Bird looked like he should've been driving a forklift at a birdseed factory -- yet was the one of the five best who has ever played the game. -
James Gatz
He had the best numbers. Aldridge, Rondo, Roy, and Horford have always been better players though. They didn't just magically lap him when they got to the NBA.reclegend22;1345230 wrote:Better than any black player that year, if that's how you want to determine hoops greatness.
And the fact he worse a white undershirt while playing basketball has everything to do with him being awkward. It was a year of some kid with bacne and a guy with a bad mustache who cried all the time being declared the two best players. Shitty season of CBB. -
ernest_t_bassLol. This thread is now apparently about Redick and Morrison.

friendfromlowryI always enjoyed the threads about what irritates you on Facebook. Was it TrueBlue23 (I think?) that had a crazy passive-aggressive friend with the best status updates.

The NPOTY typically goes to the player with the most impressive stats/number of high-profile performances from a top team. J.J. Redick, playing for No. 1 Duke most of the year during the regular-season, fit that bill, averaging 26.8 points a game for the season and scoring over 40 three times against top level teams in No. 2 Texas, at Georgetown and against Virginia. Not to mention an eight-game stretch in the ACC where he was averaging 35 per game. He put together the best season in that particular year. That's how the NPOTY award is awarded. It is not based on who will be better in the NBA.James Gatz;1345232 wrote:He had the best numbers. Aldridge, Rondo, Roy, and Horford have always been better players though. And by bringing up some of the other elite level talent that was playing that year in Roy, Rondo, Aldridge, among others, you kind of prove that it was a pretty good year for college basketball in terms of top players. -

Haha. All right. I surrender this argument officially. (At least in this thread.) It just never dies. I think that point has been proven. Ha.ernest_t_bass;1345480 wrote:Move it to another thread! This is about old school debated topics! lol -

LOL @ Bird being a top 5 all-time player. He'd ride the bench on the Wizards if he played in today's NBA.reclegend22;1345230 wrote:Bird looked like he should've been driving a forklift at a birdseed factory -- yet was the one of the five best who has ever played the game. -
