Zero Dark Thirty.....
-
thavoicewho is gonna see it?
Says special engagement on 12/19 but everywhere on 1/11.
Just got done reading the book No Easy Day written by a guy on DEVGRU who was on the raid. Great read as it also talks of other ops.
Also saw the NatGeo movie on it and I thought that was pretty good considering it was a made for tv movie.
I think i will see this one as soon as I can even though I havent haerd of it called ZERO dark thirty before......typically have heard it described as O (as in the letter O) dark thirty but I imagine if taht was the title it would be "confusing" to some . -
Commander of AwesomeNope will not see. Just like that shitty 9/11 movie that came out, or the navy seal movie last year. Gimmick.
-
TiernanI'll wait to see if MartyIrish gives it the thumbs up or down first.

Talk to a few SEALs and they all pretty much said the same thing about the movie, it captured what they do op-wise pretty good.
Now...they generally arent happy about all the publicity that the Teams are getting as they like to be known as the Silent Warriors but still said Act of Valor was pretty damned good, and they usually rip every other military movie to shreds. -
bigdaddy2003I'll give it a look. I thought it opened wide this month.

bases_loadedAct of Valor is a great movie. The SEALs and the rest of the special forces are bad fucking ass.

Midstate01If you have Netflix there is a movie about seal team 6 and the killing of Bin Ladin and its outstanding.
I will def see this one too
And act of valor was awesome, and the fact they used live ammo made the sound of the guns that much better. -

That was the one on NatGeo I believe. There was controversy because it was shown a day or two before the election and some thought it was done so to promote BHO because one of his big supporters funded much of the movie. I thought it was a great tv movie and didnt do anything really to promote BHO at all. Pretty much stayed to just what he said.Midstate01;1341158 wrote:If you have Netflix there is a movie about seal team 6 and the killing of Bin Ladin and its outstanding.

Did you read No Easy Day at all? Good book, and I know i should not have supported the person who wrote it as he shouldnt have but still.....he talks about taht lady in the intel who was instrumental in getting the OP teh green light -

Awesome book, its too bad he was run through the ringer like he was, I'm glad he wrote it. If they couldn't show us the damn body, the least they could do was tell us what happened. When they couldn't do that, then someone had to...and no better person than the man there.thavoice;1341171 wrote:That was the one on NatGeo I believe. Eh, I was glad I read it but I also know that SEALs generally take a silent stance on what they do and most dont particularly like or care for those who come out and write books and make money off of what they did. Most take being Silent Warriors very seriously. I know he said he was donating some of the proceeds to the charities, but he is still making some dough on it.bases_loaded;1341186 wrote:Awesome book, its too bad he was run through the ringer like he was, I'm glad he wrote it. It's easier to be a silent warrior when you're not being exploited for political gain. -

I am no Obama fan at all, dont get me wrong.
But I dont think the publicity he took from it was over and beyond what was warranted.
If the roles were reversed, and a Repub was in power when this happened I think that President woulda have done the same thing during a re election campaign. Yeah, I think he is a poor president and some of the stuff he does is complete BS, but I am not gonna place the UBL situation in that category.
Gotta give him credit though for actually going through with it. Took some balls to OK going into Pakistan without telling them and getting this done. If we all remember right, they believe that he was at Tora Bora when we were bombing the crap out of it, but when it was time do seal the deal we stepped back for whatever reason and he slipped away.
I think for anyone who reads the book, or watched the NatGeo movie, they will come out with the understanding that the woman who pursued this for years, and with absolute certainty guarenteed 100% that UBL was there was very important, and probably the most important person, to get this OP green lit. The others were saying, what, only like 40-50% chance this was the place? Her 100% belief, whether it was genuine or not, was the ultimate decision in actually doing this. The Prez gets props for actually OKing the whole op because if it goes bad then he ultimately pays the price and probably costs him re election and maybe starts another war, but it is HER who is the most important person who should be praised, and of course those operatative who carried out the mission. I hope this movie highlights that as well. Also, if it went terribly wrong she probably loses her job as well, but it would not be as devastating to her as it would be for the president
I liked how the story gives insight about how long and how far back some of this important information was obtained. Some have whispered that waterboarding was used in getting some of the info (the books/movie dont mention it tho) but it goes way, way back and it really was a very large puzzle and as much of a bad rap that intel people get they gotta get the props for this one.
The SEALs are the ones who carried out the raid and killed UBL and they are amazing heroes, no doubt, but they would not have been put in that situation if it werent for years and tens of thousands of hours of backwork. -
